What you'll do:

As an Engineer I, you are responsible for designing, building, evaluating and implementing critical components of the enterprise data platform to support Western Alliance Bank’s strategic data and analytics objectives. This role requires strong data management, cloud data engineering, and technology expertise to develop a cross-business-unit data layer that improves products and delivers meaningful insights. The ideal candidate brings strong technical experience, an engineering mindset, effective critical thinking skills, an outcome-focused approach, and a collaborative, team-first attitude. You should be prepared to learn and apply modern automation and integration methods, cloud-first design patterns, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques. Staying current with industry analytics trends is an important differentiator in this role.
  • Design, develop, evaluate, and deploy data engineering solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure DevOps to support Western Alliance Bank’s regulatory reporting and LFI strategy.
  • Build ETL and data pipeline capabilities that address how data is created, transformed, stored, archived, analyzed, and shared across Western Alliance Bank and partner systems.
  • Implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for data solutions in alignment with Western Alliance Bank’s technical standards.
  • Apply test-driven development practices to every data solution designed, built, and implemented.
  • Use Power BI to design, deploy, and visualize tabular cubes, enabling seamless business intelligence integration and actionable insights.
  • Conduct data exploration and profiling using tools such as Excel and Informatica.
  • Partner with product owners, data architects, and business stakeholders to understand business requirements and operational processes.
  • Support and resolve enterprise platform issues while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot files, data, API, and orchestration issues to ensure timely resolution, data integrity, and system reliability.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, MIS, or Data & Analytics.
  • Basic knowledge of RDBMS and query languages such as T-SQL, PL/SQL or Spark SQL, and code scripting and concepts of code logic.
  • Willingness to tackle new challenges and continuously learn modern automation and integration methods and tools.
  • Entry level knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Entry level knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards, and practices.
  • Entry level organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with team members, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Entry level experience from the classroom working with code repositories and automated code build solutions for CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Intermediate speaking and writing communication skills.
