We need an Energy Resource Manager (ERM) within Data Center Operations Management to help optimize datacenter IT capacity through effective planning, allocation, and operational execution across space, power, cooling, and network resources.

Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. As an ERM, you will help enable datacenter capacity, improve Infrastructure Utilization Effectiveness (IUE), reduce stranded capacity, and support capacity-harvesting and retrofit efforts across the existing fleet. This role partners closely with local Datacenter Operations teams, Critical Environment teams, engineering stakeholders, suppliers, and regional/global support organizations to deliver secure, reliable, and efficient service outcomes.

With environmental sustainability and optimization at the forefront of datacenter design and operations, this role supports the infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Azure, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Xbox, and Bing.

  • Adhere to compliance, safety, and security standards across datacenter operations, service agreements, and business-unit requirements; report safety or security concerns promptly and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities as appropriate.
  • Engage the appropriate teams and resources to execute complex tasks, programs, and projects; align scope, schedule, cost, technical requirements, and operational readiness to service delivery Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitor OKRs, KPIs, capacity trends, tooling data, and operational risks; identify anomalies, discrepancies, dependencies, and improvement opportunities, and communicate risks or recommendations to leaders and stakeholders.
  • Manage service delivery workstreams and escalate blockers to appropriate owners or stakeholders to minimize disruption to clients and the business, including supporting troubleshooting, incident management, post-mortems, and RCA outcomes.
  • Coordinate with Critical Environment, electrical engineering, deployment, networking, regional support, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners to implement capacity, process, tooling, safety, compliance, and security improvements.
  • Manage vendor, supplier, landlord, and partner expectations to ensure operational, safety, security, and delivery requirements are clarified, documented, understood, and met.
  • Apply sound fiscal discipline by supporting budget forecasting, tracking risks to cost models, managing purchase order and invoicing processes, identifying cost-reduction opportunities, and keeping work aligned to approved spend.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by sharing best practices, mentoring others in role-specific processes and procedures, onboarding new team members as needed, and completing required corporate, security, and technical training.
  • Exercise judgment and discretion to support end-to-end service quality, customer experience, availability, safety, security, and consistent communication across stakeholders.
