As a “one stop shop” for a suite of home energy efficiency and rooftop solar installation programs, Civic Works helps homeowners and renters of all income levels maximize energy bill savings and improve home comfort and safety. As a social enterprise within Civic Works’ Center for Sustainable Careers (CSC), our Energy Programs also create on-the-job training opportunities and pathways to family-sustaining careers for unemployed and underemployed residents.
With key partners and funding in place, Civic Works is expanding the team and its impact across Baltimore and Central Maryland. Civic Works is seeking an additional Energy Auditor to conduct residential energy audits and perform Quick Home Energy Check-up (QHEC) installations while educating clients on energy efficiency opportunities.

Position Summary
The Energy Auditor conducts residential energy audits to Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards, performs Quick Home Energy Check-ups (QHECs) with direct-install measures, and develops detailed work scopes for weatherization contractors. The role combines strong technical skills with excellent customer service and the ability to educate clients on energy efficiency, conservation, and available program incentives. QHECs consist of installing all applicable direct-install energy efficiency measures, and completing all required documentation and applications within BGE’s mobile platform, Sightline. The Energy Auditor will also complete Energy Audits and will be responsible for energy modeling and the preparation of written reports, outlining a prioritized sequence of home improvements that will ultimately result in energy conservation, reduced operating costs, improved comfort, and improved health and safety.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Energy Audits and Quick Home Energy Check-ups:
- Install quick energy-saving products (e.g. LEDs, showerheads, aerators, pipe insulation, door sweeps, surge protectors, weatherstripping, and smart thermostats), adhering to protocols and eligibility requirements.
- Adhere to industry standards, best practices, and protocols, including the Building Performance Institute standards and the expectations of contracts with customers, utilities, government, and private funders.
- Complete comprehensive residential energy audits, without sacrificing quality, including completing “blower door” air infiltration testing, combustion safety testing, gas leak detection, infrared imaging, and ventilation testing.
- Assess homes for health and safety concerns related to weatherization work, including moisture, mold, ventilation, electrical, combustion appliances, and structural issues.
- Enter detailed data and test results into energy modeling software and revise modeling as necessary (e.g. Beacon and Sightline).
- Complete formal reports detailing the energy audit findings.
- Develop detailed weatherization work scopes, pricing, measures and quantities to be completed by subcontractors. Work with Quality Control Manager and program staff to align work scopes with field crew best practices and contract requirements.
- Maintain efficient turnaround time for the substantial quantity of formal reports (including the modeling and work scope).
- Confirm appointment dates and times.
- Contact customers to fill gaps in the installation schedule.
- Submit daily reports on all work completed, including digital job forms and tagged verification photos as required.
- Interact with residents to ensure customer satisfaction and effective energy education.
- Customer Service / Energy Education:
- Arrive prepared and on-time for all work days and site visits.
- Provide outstanding customer service, responding to customer questions and concerns.
- Educate customers on the benefits of direct installs, behavior-change actions, and comprehensive weatherization and health and safety repairs.
- Educate customers on the available grants or incentives and financing options.
- Set accurate expectations for any forthcoming appointments.
- Inventory:
- Assist with securing vehicles, equipment, tools, and facility spaces; ensure all are in good working and safe condition.
- Report broken and missing tools or vehicle issues to the Facilities Manager.
- Ensure tablet and mobile devices are in good working condition; coordinate with technology personnel as needed.
- Maintain proper supply of materials and inventory in vehicles.
- Coordinate with the Quality Control Manager regarding material and inventory needs and tracking.
- Attend and participate in educational programs and professional meetings as requested and necessary in relation to requirements and expectations of the industry.
Education and Experience:
- Building Performance Institute certified Building Analyst (or higher) preferred. Willing to train for the right candidate, with successful completion required within the first 90 days.
- Previous customer service, sales, and/or lead generation experience.
- Knowledge of building science preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of residential construction and systems, including heating and air conditioning, mold and asbestos remediation, waterproofing preferred.
- Proficiency with or ability to quickly learn web-based software such as Salesforce, Google Mail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar.
- Experience completing residential energy audits preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Physical ability to perform the work. Able to lift 50lbs and climb ladders.
- Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, sales, and writing skills.
- Phenomenal relationship building skills: ability to personally connect with and engage with diverse groups of customers.
- Ability to clearly explain technical information, energy efficiency concepts, and program requirements in an easy-to-understand and customer-friendly manner.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Schedule and Location:
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
- This is an in-person position that will report to Civic Works’ office in Baltimore City and travel to customer locations.
