The EMR Quality Improvement Nurse Assistant Manager supports the ongoing optimization of the electronic medical record (EMR) to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across Pediatric Cancer & Blood Disorders. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, and informatics leaders to identify workflow improvement opportunities, implement evidence-based practice changes, monitor quality performance metrics, and ensure accurate clinical documentation. Responsibilities include leading EMR-related quality initiatives, supporting staff education and adoption of best practices, coordinating audits and performance reviews, and serving as a liaison between frontline teams and system informatics resources. The position plays a key role in advancing patient outcomes, operational excellence, and continuous process improvement within the service line.

Essential Functions

  • Lead EMR-driven quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, outcomes, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to identify, implement, and sustain workflow improvements.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, testing, and optimization of oncology treatment plans and related EMR content to ensure alignment with evidence-based practice, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and report quality, safety, and documentation metrics; develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Optimize EMR workflows, order sets, documentation tools, and clinical decision support resources.
  • Conduct audits, chart reviews, and data validation to ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with informatics, IT, pharmacy, and analytics teams on EMR enhancements, testing, and implementation.
  • Provide education, training, and support to staff on EMR workflows, documentation standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Assist with policy development, accreditation readiness, and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary quality improvement projects and facilitate change management efforts.
  • Support assistant manager responsibilities, including operational coordination, staff support, and leadership coverage as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).
  • Current Nursing License to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of the start of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Must complete Intermountain's leadership training and development courses within one year of accepting this leadership position.
  • 2 years clinical experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
