The Role:
We are seeking an employment counsel to partner closely and proactively with our Human Resources team and other members of management, and to defend the company's interests in disputes and investigations. To succeed in this role, you must have a strong foundation in employment law, superior client counselling and relationship building skills, a practical focus, an appetite to lean in and drive projects, intellectual curiosity and keen critical thinking, a passion for learning new things, common sense and a good sense of humor. Experience managing general litigation is a plus. (A passion for sound and the difference it makes in people's lives can't hurt, either.)
Responsibilities include:
Establish and nurture good working relationships with internal clients and leaders, based on mutual trust and respect, as well as knowledge of the company's business, needs and goals.
Provide day-to-day employment law advice and counseling on a range of human resources topics such as workplace investigations, org design, compensation and benefits, leaves of absence and accommodation of disabilities, performance management and discipline, terminations, wage and hour, hiring and recruitment, and workforce restructuring.
With a strategic and practical focus, manage and resolve employment disputes, including negotiating resolution of claims and concerns prior to filing, representing the company before administrative agencies, and managing outside counsel in employment litigation.
Work with HR and other business groups (e.g., Compliance and Information Security) to oversee and support implementation, review and revision of policies, processes, procedures and forms.
Assess compliance requirements and legal risk under federal and state employment laws and regulations, and advise HR of new developments and requirements.
Proactively monitor legal developments, industry and regulatory trends and topics, and legislative initiatives.
Develop and conduct training for HR professionals on topics involving employment law compliance and HR best practices.
Requirements for the Position Include:
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
Working at least three days per week on-site at our Framingham Corporate Headquarters under our hybrid work model.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a sophisticated law firm or in-house legal department; combination of law firm and in-house experience is desired.
Excellent analytical ability and professional judgment, and skill at developing practical, creative solutions that advance important business objectives while minimizing potential legal risks.
Responsiveness with a customer focused mindset, the ability to manage and prioritize many tasks to deliver timely, high-quality work, and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to influence senior executives and business leaders.
Ability to drive results on a broad range of projects and initiatives, collaborating across business units.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Willingness to learn new things and play outside your comfort zone. And common sense and a good sense of humor.
