We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Embedded AI Intern to join our team and help build edge AI demonstrations on Renesas MCUs. In this role, you’ll support the end-to-end workflow—from data collection and organization to signal processing, model development, and on-device deployment/testing. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn and contribute to real-world projects that combine embedded systems, data processing, and AI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and refine edge AI demos using Renesas MCUs and associated development tools
  • Collect, label, clean, and organize sensor/dataset inputs for model training and evaluation
  • Apply signal processing techniques (e.g., filtering, feature extraction, FFT) to improve model performance
  • Prototype and evaluate machine learning algorithms/models for embedded use cases
  • Deploy and validate models on Renesas MCUs (e.g., memory/latency optimization, accuracy testing)
  • Document workflows, results, and demos; collaborate with the team to iterate quickly

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled full time as a rising junior or senior BS student or MS student in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.(Must not have graduated before September 2026)
  • Basic programming skills in C/C++, Python (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib/Plotly, Scikit-learn) and MATLAB, with experience writing clean, modular, and efficient code.
  • Basic experience with common embedded toolchains, IDEs, and Git version control.
  • Basic understanding of time-series signal processing (e.g., sampling, FFT, STFT, spectrogram).
  • Basic knowledge with machine learning algorithms (SVM, logistic regression, neural networks, convolutional networks).
  • Familiarity with embedded concepts (e.g., MCUs, peripherals, debugging)
  • Interest in TinyML/edge AI, and willingness to learn new tools and workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Valid driving license for data collection.

Nice to have

  • Experience with signal processing, sensor data, or time-series signal processing
  • Experience with AI modeling, machine learning algorithms
  • Exposure to ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow/TFLite, PyTorch) and model deployment concepts

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience with real-world projects, processing and workflow optimization.
  • Exposure to end-to-end AI project workflows in a real-world setting.
  • Opportunities to enhance technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative skills.
