Under established policies, procedures and codes, this position is responsible to lead and supervise execution of all planned corrective, preventive and predictive electrical maintenance for the electrical and electronic equipment and components at the refinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other component.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
  • Familiarization with Australian standards for Hazardous areas Electrical installation
  • Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
  • Develop and Review Work Instruction and Procedures for the Electrical Team and run Competency Based Training Matrix.

  • Being aware of factors or situations that may impact upon the quality of the product and service and the environment.
  • Following implicitly the Company’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy / Procedures / Work Instructions as communicated in writing or as instructions received orally
  • Comply with the Company’s procedures and the relevant legislation regarding the Injury Management process.
  • To formally report to their Manager any concern or incident / injury / non-conformance in any aspect of their work and complete the Puma Energy PNG Incident / Non Conformance Report form.
  • To formally report to their Manager or supervisor any hazard, practice or condition that will affect safety or production or the community.
  • All forms are completed as outlined in the procedures
  • Any discrepancies of goods / services received are to be addressed through the Non Conformance procedures
  • All products are to be verified at appropriate stages as outlined in procedures and a record maintained.

Key Relationships:

  • Internal – HSEC team, shift supervisor, mechanical technicians, instrument technicians, engineers, refinery operators
  • External –  Contractors and Suppliers

Skills Required

  • Experience in electrical maintenance and supervision
  • Familiarity with Australian standards for hazardous areas
  • Ability to use testing equipment and diagnostic tools
  • Experience in training and directing electrical teams
