The successful candidate will join the Electrical Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Electrical Engineering Project Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs specific and limited engineering tasks of a broader assignment, under the direction of an experienced engineer.


Prepare computations, specifications, and report of limited scope and complexity


Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations.


Capable of designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, communication systems.  General experience in controls and instrumentation, prepare engineering analysis, studies, reports, construction cost estimates and construction troubleshooting.


Independently make decisions on engineering problems and methods and ability to resolve important technical questions through the use of advanced techniques and the extension or modification of standard practices. 


Conducts analysis and evaluation or design of unique and complex tasks through the development of new or improved methods and procedures.


Accomplishes assignments by defining requirements, developing criteria, searching for information, developing concepts, coordinating intra or interdisciplinary interfaces and controlling allocated resources.


May plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of others on a large engineering project or on smaller projects containing many complex features or requiring detailed analysis.


Perform power distribution system design including high-medium-low voltage substation, utilities and facilities design, substation relaying, protection device coordination analysis using software (ETAP) preferred, adjustable/variable speed controllers design from low to high HP machines.


Prepare engineering studies, reports, design review presentations, construction cost estimates & construction management services.  Knowledge of code compliance.


General experience in process control and automation.  Allen Bradley PLC and LabVIEW experience preferred.


General experience with AutoCAD, REVIT, MS 365 including MS project.


PE License preferred.



QUALIFICATIONS

US Citizenship is required. Electrical Engineer degree from an accredited engineering school and three (3) to five (5) years related engineering experience, or MS degree from an accredited engineering school and two (2) to three (3) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school. Valid driver’s license is required.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work Environment:
Industrial Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, steam, high pressure lines, and industrial facilities (90%)
Travel between various facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (10%)

Physical Requirements:
Visual and physical (hands on) contact of industrial related systems, hardware, and articles.
Requires climbing, crawling, bending, and body mobility (30%)
Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%) Corrected vision (100%) Hearing (100%)
Requires lifting, carrying, exerting pressure up to 35lbs. (10%)

Equipment and Machines:
1. Industrial facilities- will use: Hand tools/power tools/mechanical/electrical control devices (40%)
2. Personal computers, computer terminals, related equipment (20%)
3. Safety and personal protective equipment (100%)

Attendance:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Occasional overtime/work outside normal schedule may be required (<20%)

Compensation Details:

$85,000 - $110,000
