POSITION GOAL:

The Electrical Engineer Associate l performs entry-level technical duties. The prospective candidate supports various aspects of electrical design tasks for roadway and area lighting, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), toll collection facilities, renewable energy, electric vehicle service equipment, traffic signals, and other electrical related designs. Additionally, this candidate assists in the preparation of electrical models, plans, and schematics; performs electrical and lighting calculations; assists in the development of special provisions and estimates of cost; and adheres to the firm’s quality procedures and QAQC reviews for project deliverables.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - GENERAL

•    Possesses basic understanding of foundational engineering concepts. 
•    Acquires basic knowledge and develops basic skills through mentored experience. 
•    Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks. 
•    Performs work assignments of minimal complexity. Contributes to project objectives and outcomes. 
•    Receives guidance on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems. 
•    Works as part of a team and coordinates work with others. 
•    Typically requires close supervision. 
•    Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. 
•    Interacts primarily with internal project team members. May be required to communicate with clients and other stakeholders.  
•    Adheres to project deadlines and scope and keeps task managers informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments. 
•    Performs review of own work prior to submitting to the next review level. 
•    Establishes project work priorities and plans work accordingly.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - SPECIFIC

•    Performs engineering design tasks for projects from preliminary to final design.
•    Performs electrical and lighting design calculations under supervision of project engineers.
•    Participates in internal and external project meetings.
•    Assists with utility coordination for new service and/or conflict resolution.
•    Participates in field surveys and data collection.
•    Adheres to the firm’s quality procedures and QAQC reviews for project deliverables.
•    Participates in development of detailed construction plans, special provisions, and estimate of costs for roadway, utility, and electrical for transportation projects.
•    Performs design changes and revisions based on internal and external feedback.
•    Communicates regularly with project staff to coordinate the progress of various assignments and adherence to project deadlines.
•    Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones.
•    Assists with organizing and maintaining project files.
•    Applies applicable current engineering standards and federal and/or local requirements to assigned projects.
•    Participates in quality control reviews throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution preferred.

Licensure: Engineer-in-Training Certificate preferred.

Job Classification: Exempt (Salaried).

Reports to: Electrical Department Head or as otherwise designated by the Department Head.

Experience: Typically, 0 to 3 years work experience.

Communication Skills: Basic verbal and written communication skills.

Technical Skills: Entry-level engineering skills to complement position goals. Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Bluebeam, and CADD software, specifically the Bentley Suite of products including Open Roads Designer and ProjectWise preferred. Basic knowledge of relevant industry standards and local and national electrical codes preferred. Basic knowledge of local agencies’ standards preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.

Working Environment: This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. Travel is required; must possess a valid driver’s license. 

Continuing Education: Complete state-required competency trainings. Attend job-related seminars and workshops.

Salary Pay Range: $72,800 - $78,000 per year
