The Electrical Apprentice supports licensed electricians and journeyman electricians with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial electrical systems. This role is designed for individuals learning the electrical trade through hands-on field experience, on-the-job training, and instruction while working under appropriate supervision and adhering to all applicable safety regulations, electrical codes, and company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist licensed electricians and journeyman electricians with the installation, assembly, modification, and repair of electrical systems, including conduit, wiring, panels, switchgear, and electrical components used in commercial applications
- Support routine maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, fixtures, motors, and control devices under supervision
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical system issues, including power failures, control malfunctions, and equipment connectivity problems
- Learn to interpret and work from blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install conduit and pull wire as directed
- Assist with testing and verification of electrical systems using appropriate meters and diagnostic tools under supervision
- Prepare, organize, and maintain tools, materials, parts, and equipment needed for assigned work
- Communicate work progress, questions, and jobsite needs to supervisors, electricians, technicians, and project team members
- Complete assigned tasks in a professional manner that meets customer and company standards
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation as directed, including work performed, materials used, test results, and photos
- Comply with all company policies, jobsite procedures, and applicable electrical and safety codes
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly care for assigned tools and equipment
- Travel to various job sites as required
- Perform other related duties within the scope of an electrical apprenticeship as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications

- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and power tools safely
- Ability to follow directions, established procedures, and detailed work instructions
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical information, with a willingness to develop blueprint and electrical drawing skills
- Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Dependable, safety-focused, and able to maintain productivity and quality standards under supervision
- Prior experience with commercial, industrial, construction, maintenance, or trade work preferred but not required
Certifications and Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Enrollment in or willingness to enroll in an electrical apprenticeship program or related trade training preferred
- OSHA safety training preferred
- Valid state driver’s license required and must be maintained
- Additional electrical, construction, or safety training preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull
- Must be able to lift, carry, and handle materials weighing up to 75 pounds
- Work is performed in commercial and industrial environments, including indoor and outdoor settings
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, energized equipment, and varying temperatures
