The Role

At QuidelOrtho, we’re advancing the power of diagnostics for a healthier future for all. Join our mission as our next EHS Specialist. This role will support daily activities across occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, environmental compliance, and sustainability, and assist in the maintenance of environmental and safety management systems for the Micro Typing Systems (MTS) facility in Pompano Beach, FL. The EHS Specialist will provide support to Operations, Quality, Product Support, Engineering, and Facilities and will collaborate across multiple functions including administrative support services. They will also focus on assisting with EHS program implementation and compliance activities under the guidance of site leadership. This position is located in Pompano Beach, Florida.

The Requirements
  • Assist with the implementation of occupational safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and environmental sustainability programs.

  • Support the development and delivery of EHS training materials; maintain documentation and help update written procedures.

  • Participate in accident and near‑miss investigations by gathering information, conducting basic root‑cause analysis, and tracking corrective actions.

  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills, documentation, and equipment checks.

  • Assist with maintaining EHS policies and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulatory requirements.

  • Help execute EHS action plans, monitor program elements, and provide basic technical support to help meet site and corporate goals.

  • Conduct routine inspections, safety walkthroughs, and assist with internal compliance audits.

  • Assist with tracking nonconformances and preparing documents for external audits or inspections by regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain required EHS records and assist in the preparation and timely submission of reports.

  • Support process improvement initiatives and help collect, track, and report EHS metrics and key performance indicators.

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and QuidelOrtho EHS Standards in areas such as Life Safety, Chemical Substance Management, Emergency Response, Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, Hearing Conservation, Electrical Safety, Fall Prevention, and other regulatory programs.

  • Work under general supervision; assist with identifying hazards, conducting basic risk assessments, supporting corrective action implementation, and helping maintain effective EHS controls.

  • Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.

  • 1–3+ years of experience in Occupational Safety, Environmental Compliance, and/or Industrial Hygiene (internship/co‑op experience may be considered).

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations.

  • Familiarity with occupational safety and environmental program components.

  • Experience assisting with hazard assessments and EHS risk mitigation.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Team‑oriented mindset; ability to work independently with direction.

  • Experience with EHS data reporting and tracking systems is a plus.

  • Safety/environmental certifications (e.g., GSP, ASP, CHMM) preferred but not required.

Work Environment
  • Temperature: Office environment, occasional visit to walk-in cool box

  • Noise level: Office environment, frequent visits to operational areas.

  • Workspace: Traditional office workspace

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, light lifting (<15lbs)

  • Infrequent vertical ladder climbing (roof access)
