Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY
Tarkett, a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surfaces is seeking a hands-on EHS Specialist for our plant in Middlefield, OH. In this role, you will support the administration of Workers Compensation, and help develop, maintain and improve environmental health and safety programs within the Middlefield site. The environmental health and safety program should strive to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements and provide for a safe work environment that is free of hazards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support all aspects of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs and initiatives.
- Assist with the Administration of workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs.
- Ensure compliance with Safe Work Practices (SWP), regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and related standards), and company policies.
- Assist in the Coordination of ISO 14001/45001 certification activities and audit readiness efforts.
- Partner with external EHS consultants to maintain regulatory and environmental compliance.
- Design, implement, and facilitate EHS training and orientation programs for hourly, salaried, new hire, and temporary associates across a variety of group sizes.
- Assist in ensuring proper training and compliance to plant EHS policies and procedures involving contractor / vendor personnel
- Monitor safety performance through observations and data analysis, identify corrective actions, maintain EHS databases, and support plant reporting requirements.
- Assist in providing oversight to Plant’s hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, handling and transport program
- Support ergonomic assessments, evaluate and recommend safety equipment, and assist with PPE selection, implementation, and compliance.
- Serve as an EHS Champion in furthering “Safety First” culture
- Actively engage with shop floor supervisors and employees through regular floor presence, spending a minimum of 50% of working time on the production floor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline OR equivalent relevant work experience
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with responsibilities relevant to this role
- 1+ year of experience with workers compensation law, and light duty/return to work programs preferred
- Strong working knowledge of all OSHA and EPA (OEPA) regulations
- Understanding of Industrial wastewater discharge permitting processes
- Willingness to collaborate and dynamically engage with fellow Ohio Campus EHS team
- Excellent verbal and written skills to include technical writing
- Strong interpersonal and presentations skills are essential
- Advanced computer skills are essential – Microsoft Office 365 environment
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and other non-standard hours as needed in support of a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene monitoring, environmental compliance and permitting, SPCC/SWPPP programs, environmental sampling and recordkeeping, Tier II and Form R reporting, air permitting, hazardous waste management, and hazard mitigation practices preferred.

Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline
- Minimum of three years of manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience with workers compensation law
- Strong working knowledge of all OSHA and EPA regulations
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene test methods and hazard mitigation techniques
