JOB SUMMARY

The  EHS Manager is responsible for maintaining a robust EHS program and providing direction, oversight, and interaction of the day-to-day safety and compliance operations for Recibiopharm's state-of-the-art commercial biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Watertown, MA. The EHS Manager will collaborate with Site Leadership to ensure the highest standards of workplace safety and compliance and, to instill behaviors that establish a safety-first culture. They will lead the Emergency Response Team, support site specific programs based on government regulation, industry best practices, and achievement of goals, and drive site safety initiatives to help reduce and/or eliminate work place accidents. The EHS Manager serves as the EH & S point of contact for the Watertown site and is a member of the Site leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Review appropriate government regulations, determine the applicability to the site and the site’s operation, and update or write policies and procedures in a practical way to be delivered to the site and/or different user groups
  • Manages all Environmental, Safety, and Industrial Hygiene functions, services, and resources to support the Watertown site.
  • Audit and update all procedures to ensure understanding, compliance, and user comprehension.  Procedures include but are not limited to; Regulated waste, new chemical review, Forklifts, Hazardous Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Incident investigation, Hotwork, Emergency Action and Fire Prevention, Confined Space, Contractor Safety, SPCC, Fall Prevention, and Fall Protection
  • Conduct assessments and inspections as required for environmental and safety regulations and continuous improvement, Job Hazard Assessments. Accident Investigations, Hazard control and Prevention Reports. Tracking and verification of corrective actions
  • Perform weekly site safety/environmental inspections noting potential deficiencies and areas for improvement.  Then working with the appropriate parties to identify address the root cause and correct any areas of concern.
  • Work to achieve site safety, environmental goals.
  •  Lead site programs to help reach these goals.
  • Oversee incident/accident investigations to root cause determination for appropriate corrective and preventative actions to establish a site culture of prevention.
  • Manage the Hazardous Waste program including site waste minimization initiatives, packing and labeling waste for shipment, scheduling waste shipments, tracking and trending of waste shipments, and completion of all associated federal and state reports.
  • Monitor and communicate all EHS metrics monthly, analyze data, identify trends and develop corrective measures to identify and eliminate risk
  • Administers the safety supplies and PPE programs for employees
  • Provide EHS leadership and direction for management, professional, technical, and support staff
Experience and Skills
  • Minimum B.S. in Environmental Engineering, Safety Science, or other related Scientific/Engineering degree
  • 3-5 years of environment and safety experience required
  • EH & S Experience in biomanufacturing industry required
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety, industrial hygiene, industrial safety principles, biological safety, and a consistent record in maturing programs and processes
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and apply government regulations (i.e. OSHA, EPA, MDNR) to site specific programs.
  • Strong communication skills required to communicate to multiple user groups from site ownership to technician level.
  • Computer software proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) needed.
