Job Description

The role of the Safety and Environmental Engineer is to independently coordinate, implement and sustain the safety and environmental activities for US operations at assigned location(s). Collaborate with the USA Environmental, Health & Safety Division Mgr. and the sites' product and manufacturing team to review new or changed manufacturing processes and confirm compliance with safety and/or environmental requirements. Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations related to safety and environmental activities. Assist in driving a behavior-based quality and safety culture characterized by accountability, commitment and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Stay informed of evolving safety and environmental laws and interpret their application to sites, processes, and products; evaluate process data, product data, and product requirements to identify improvement opportunities and recommend changes as needed.
  • Perform emissions calculations to prepare permits and reports required by legislation, manufacturing processes, or regulatory changes; provide Safety Data Sheets (SDS) support for US products and processes.
  • Conduct safety and environmental audits for site operations and on-site contractors, providing guidance and solutions to audit findings in support of continuous improvement and lead improvement initiatives to enhance site operations.
  • Provide timely completion and reporting of required internal reports, metrics, and externally mandated documentation including OSHA injury documentation, annual reporting requirements, and federal, state, and local environmental reports.

Qualifications

What Qualifies You for This Role:

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, plus a minimum of four (4) years of safety and/or environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Engineering & Analytical Skills. Working knowledge of chemical reactions, mass balances, and emission calculations. Ability to evaluate safety and environmental needs related to process changes, interpret technical data, and develop corrective action plans. Proficiency in reviewing material hazards and characterizing physical properties in relation to chemical and environmental risks. Ability to create CAD drawings to support safety and regulatory activities.

Environmental, Health & Safety Skills. Effective communication with government organizations and regulatory agencies. Experience evaluating and managing third-party suppliers for safety and environmental services. Demonstrated track record of operating with integrity and compliance in regulated environments.

Additional Information

The minimum and maximum salary range for this full-time position is $80,000 - $95,000 + benefits.   Relocation benefits are not available for this role. 

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.  Please note that the compensation details listed in this posted role reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus or benefits.
