Position Overview

The U.S. Manager or Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) will be responsible for leading the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of HSE programs across Nextpower's U.S. operations and acquired businesses & functions. This position serves as the primary HSE resource for regional leadership, supporting compliance, risk management, incident prevention, training, auditing, and integration of newly acquired entities into the corporate HSE framework.

Based in Fremont, California, this role requires periodic travel throughout the United States to support facilities, offices, operational sites, and acquisition integration activities. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with strong technical knowledge, business acumen, and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization. This position will report directly to the Global Director of HSE and will have at least 1-2 support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Program Management:
  • Support the execution of the company's global HSE strategy throughout U.S. operations.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE policies, procedures, standards, and management systems.
  • Partner with business leaders to integrate HSE principles into operational decision-making and business planning.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization. (COSMA)
  • Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and communicate impacts to business leadership.
  • Lead risk assessments and assist operational teams in identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, records, and reporting systems.
  • Acquisition Due Diligence & Integration:
  • Support HSE due diligence activities associated with new acquisitions, and business integrations.
  • Evaluate HSE risks, liabilities, and compliance status of acquisition targets.
  • Assist with the integration of acquired businesses into Nextpower's HSE programs, standards, reporting processes, and training requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful post-acquisition integration.
  • Incident Management & Corrective Actions:
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking.
  • Ensure timely and thorough investigation of significant incidents and near misses.
  • Analyze trends and recommend proactive measures to reduce risk and improve performance.
  • Maintain regional reporting metrics and performance dashboards.
  • Auditing & Operational Support:
  • Conduct periodic site visits, audits, inspections, and assessments throughout U.S. operations.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to local management teams regarding HSE requirements and best practices.
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support operational leaders in achieving HSE objectives and performance goals.
  • Training & Culture Development:
  • Develop and coordinate HSE training programs for employees and management.
  • Facilitate awareness campaigns and engagement initiatives that strengthen safety culture.
  • Support onboarding and orientation processes to ensure consistent HSE expectations across the organization.

  • Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure HSE effectiveness.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to Global HSE Director & other leaders as needed on HSE performance, trends, and improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding U.S. HSE matters.
  • Support relationships with regulatory agencies, consultants, and industry organizations as required.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive HSE experience, including responsibility for multiple facilities, business units, and/or geographic regions.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, CAL OSHA, ISO 140001 & 45001standard and general environmental compliance requirements.
    • ISO 14001/45001 Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor
  • Experience developing, implementing, and administering HSE programs and management systems.
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action management.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20–30% within the United States.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting business integrations.
  • Experience within renewable energy, manufacturing, industrial, infrastructure, technology, & manufacturing/construction-related industries.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, OHST, or equivalent.
  • Experience presenting HSE performance and initiatives to leadership.

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education and other job-related reasons. The annual salary range for this position is $150,000.00-$165,000.00. (Applicable to California)
