About Karbon

Karbon is the global leader in AI-powered practice management software for accounting firms. We provide an award-winning cloud platform that helps tens of thousands of accounting professionals work more efficiently and collaboratively every day. With customers in 40 countries, we have grown into a globally distributed team across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. We are well-funded, ranked #1 on G2, growing rapidly, and have a people-first culture that is recognized with Great Place To Work® certification and on Fortune magazine's Best Small Workplaces™ List.

Karbon Academy is how we teach accounting firms around the world to get real value from Karbon, at a scale no team of humans could reach one customer at a time. It is our most important lever for customer onboarding, product adoption and long-term success, and we are rebuilding it around role-based learning paths designed for the people inside a firm: owners, operations leaders, accountants, bookkeepers and tax professionals.

As an Educational Content Developer, you will design and develop the self-paced learning experiences that make up those paths, owning courses end to end — from learning needs and scenario design through storyboarding, build, quality review and publish.

The scope goes beyond structured courses. You will also create time-of-need content that meets customers in the moment they are stuck — job aids, quick reference guides and in-product guidance — as well as go-to-market education that lands new features, supports release communications and drives adoption campaigns alongside our Product, Marketing and Customer Success teams. Some of what you build will be a six-module learning path; some of it will be a two-minute video shipped in a week.

AI is genuinely embedded in how we work. Our production workflow runs on AI-assisted storyboarding and research, which means your time goes to the parts that need human judgement: understanding what a bookkeeper actually needs on a deadline day, designing a scenario that feels real, and knowing when a draft is wrong even when it reads well. You will also see the data on what you build — completion, feedback and product usage — and help decide what to change next.

About the Role

Learning experience design and development

  • Analyze learning needs alongside the Education & Enablement Manager and subject matter experts to define objectives and scope before development begins.
  • Design and develop engaging, self-paced learning experiences across formats — e-learning courseware, video tutorials, interactive modules, microlearning, guided walkthroughs and job aids.
  • Build scenario-based content around our customer personas and fictional firm universe, so learners practise on situations that mirror their real week rather than abstract feature tours.
  • Create time-of-need performance support and go-to-market education — job aids, quick reference guides, in-product guidance, release and feature launch content — often on short timelines and in partnership with Product, Marketing and Customer Success.
  • Develop assessments and knowledge checks that meaningfully measure comprehension and capability, not just completion.
  • Apply adult learning principles, our learning objective matrix, the Karbon design map and Karbon brand guidelines to everything you produce, with accessibility considered throughout.
  • Own the quality review of your own work, and take content from first draft to review-ready in one to two rounds.

AI-assisted content production

  • Use AI tools to accelerate storyboarding, scripting, research and asset creation, and critically review AI output for accuracy, tone and instructional soundness before it ships.
  • Contribute to how our team uses AI — testing new tools and approaches, and documenting what works so the whole team gets faster.

Product and industry fluency

  • Build and maintain deep working knowledge of Karbon by using the product, our Help Centre and our internal knowledge base as primary research sources.
  • Partner with subject matter experts across Customer Success, Support and Product to validate accuracy, and stay close to the release cycle so content is updated, rebuilt or retired as Karbon evolves.

Measurement and continuous improvement

  • Analyze learner data, customer feedback and product usage to measure the effectiveness of the content you build, and use those insights to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Report clearly on the performance of your work and contribute to how we demonstrate the impact of Karbon Academy.

Karbon Academy operations

  • Support learner and customer education enquiries, LMS administration, consumption reporting and certification badging.
In your first 90 days, you will:
  • Complete Karbon Academy as a learner and share a specific, honest critique of the experience.
  • Publish your first course module within a role-based learning path.
  • Run a course independently through our AI-assisted storyboard workflow, end to end.
  • Present performance data on something you built, along with your recommendation for what to do next.
About You!
  • You have 2+ years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design or educational content development, ideally in a SaaS or technology environment, and you have a portfolio you are happy to walk us through.
  • You already use AI as part of a real production workflow — not experimentally — and you have a clear point of view on where it accelerates the work and where it needs a firm human edit.
  • You work quickly and iteratively. You would rather publish a strong first version and improve it than hold a project open for perfection.
  • You write exceptionally clearly in English, and can turn complex, technical subject matter into something plain, practical and genuinely useful for busy professionals.
  • You are comfortable becoming fluent in a domain that is new to you. Accounting, bookkeeping and tax workflows will be unfamiliar at first, and you will need to be curious, ask sharp questions and get to competent quickly.
  • You are a confident asynchronous communicator across time zones — you share progress proactively, flag risks and blockers early, and are clear about what you need from others.
  • You have a strong visual eye and can produce clean, on-brand work independently.
  • You are comfortable working with data, and treat completion rates, feedback scores and usage metrics as part of your job rather than someone else's.
  • You give and receive direct feedback well. We critique the work openly and look after the people doing it.

Bonus points for

  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, tax or financial services — or building for professionals in those fields.
  • Hands-on Karbon experience.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360 or Rise, Adobe Captivate, or similar.
  • Video production and editing, motion graphics or voiceover skills.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 / Section 508).
  • Light HTML and CSS.
  • Experience designing for a global audience across multiple regions and regulatory contexts.
