The Education outcomes and validity manager is responsible for designing and conducting rigorous, methodologically sound research that generates evidence on the design, implementation, effectiveness, and equity of student learning, curriculum, and assessment practices. This role contribute to the continuous improvement of learning experiences, pedagogy, and evaluation systems by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to inform the development of IB offerings and support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities• Provide functional supervision of data analysts and interns, as needed.
• Provide research advice/thought leadership to IB staff
• Design and implement research studies (e.g., case studies, surveys, longitudinal studies, experimental/quasi-experimental designs) aligned with education, assessment, and CP&D priorities
• Ensure studies are designed with attention to equity, cultural responsiveness, and diverse learning contexts
• Conduct inferential statistical analyses (e.g., OLS and logistic regression, hierarchical multi-level modelling, propensity score matching)
• Work with relevant experts to design and implement surveys, access and analyse large national and international datasets and IB performance data
• Conduct interviews, focus groups, classroom observations, and document analysis
• Perform thematic or grounded theory analysis using tools like NVivo or Dedoose
• Integrate and interpret findings from both qualitative and quantitative data sources
• Use convergent or sequential design frameworks to draw comprehensive conclusions
• Actively contribute to impact reporting and evidence synthesis for curriculum reform, assessment redesign, or professional learning initiatives, school experience and other relevant work
• Support the development of evidence-informed design principles for use in digital, project-based, or interdisciplinary curriculum models
• Present findings to education, assessment and CP&D teams, academic boards, and educator networks
• Contribute to publications in academic journals and professional platforms
• Works under general guidance from senior researchers and collaborates with stakeholders to address complex educational challenges.
• Addresses a wide range of problems, from routine data collection and analysis to complex issues related to educational policy and practice.
• Develops innovative approaches to solve educational problems and improve teaching and learning outcomes.
• Utilizes advanced analytical skills, interprets results and provides actionable recommendations.
• Applies strategic thinking to align research projects with educational goals and policy objectives.
• Continuously seeks opportunities to improve research methodologies and practices.
Job Requirements:
About You
Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Education Research, Applied educational statistics, Educational Psychology or a related field.
At least three years of experience in educational research (preferably K-12 education).
Significant proficiency in using statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA, Python)
Ability to manage and analyze large education datasets, including longitudinal or hierarchical data
Strong skills in interviewing, observation, ethnographic methods, and thematic analysis
Proficiency in qualitative tools (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA, ATLAS.ti)
Sensitivity to context, voice, and participant experience, especially in diverse school settings
Significant experience in designing and integrating quantitative and qualitative strands of a study
Strong conceptual skills to frame research problems holistically and communicate findings across paradigms
Knowledge of curriculum theory, assessment design, and current debates in educational measurement and pedagogy
Knowledge of psychometrics, test theory, or assessment validity frameworks is a plus
Familiarity with IB programmes or international education frameworks is highly desirable
Strong skills in report writing, critical analysis, and translating findings for practitioner use
Ability to collaborate across disciplines, work with designers and policy teams, and navigate complexity
