Reporting to the Manager and working closely with the rest of the Content Development Services and Strategic Content Acquisition team, as well as wider Operations, Marketing, and Publishing departments, the holder of this role will be responsible for supporting the successful selection and deployment of special content collections. This includes rigorous screening and review mechanisms, liaising with Guest Editorial teams, Editors, and other editorial staff, as well as supporting their promotion and reporting once published, in addition to other general administrative tasks. This role spans both operations and publishing functions, requiring someone with an interest in working across these areas.

How will you make an impact?

  • Make key decisions at multiple stages of the proposal evaluation workflow to ensure quality and integrity.

  • Manage parts of the content proposal pipeline, working with the wider Content Development Services team to coordinate the progression of proposals through systems and workflows in a timely manner, tracking and ensuring adherence to defined turnaround times and reporting standards.

  • Communicate with Guest Editorial teams, journal Editorial Board Members, and other stakeholders, as required, to facilitate proposal review and decision making.

  • Liaise with other teams in Strategic Content Acquisition, Research Publishing, and other functions to support internal and external stakeholders with queries and issues.

Nurturing and development

  • Provide guidance, advice, and support to Guest Editorial teams to improve the quality and clarity of proposals and Calls for Papers, including language polishing and adjustments to the structure of text.

  • Liaise with Guest Editorial, Journal Editorial, commissioning, and other publishing teams to support the development of the most relevant and high-potential special content and maintain the integrity of special content.

  • Identify and resolve potential issues in the development of special content, liaising with commissioning and operations teams as required.

  • Monitor key reporting metrics for proposal screening, evaluation, and launches, including turnaround times at each stage.

What we are looking for:

  • We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual with 1–4 years of experience, though candidates with internship experience in publishing or research-related roles will also be considered. This role is a step ahead of an entry-level position, offering an excellent opportunity to grow within the scholarly publishing domain.

  • You are educated to degree level, preferably in publishing, research, science, or a related field, or have a strong interest in these areas.

  • You demonstrate a strong work ethic, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing requirements. You consistently keep key objectives and targets in focus while executing tasks.

  • Efficiency, speed, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role. You should be proficient in written English, with the ability to understand and enhance scientific texts.

  • A keen interest in scholarly publishing and a good understanding of research integrity and the broader publishing and research landscape are desirable.

  • You are comfortable working with data and tracking tools, including maintaining and analyzing spreadsheets to monitor progress and report metrics.
