EDA Ecosystem Technical Project Manager, Austin, Texas
This is not a remote work opportunity.
About this opportunity:
Ericsson Silicon is scaling its custom ASIC capabilities across 5G Advanced and 6G. Central Engineering (CE) provides the foundational design methodology, tools, and infrastructure that all silicon programs depend on. We are looking for a Senior EDA Ecosystem Technical Program Manager to define and drive the tool ecosystem strategy across programs and engineering teams.
What you will do:
You will manage horizontal technical program execution for the EDA domain, orchestrating lifecycles, resource requirements, vendor partnerships, cross-functional dependencies, and environment readiness. You will not write RTL, close timing, or evaluate individual CAD tools, but you will maintain the programmatic depth to challenge infrastructure assumptions and drive informed EDA roadmap decisions. You will make domain-level recommendations and lead cross-functional alignment in partnership with CAD, CE, and Silicon leadership.
The EDA ecosystem strategy is being redefined now - you will architect and scale it, rather than simply maintain an existing program. You will exercise significant influence over multi-million-dollar investment decisions across a globally distributed organization.
You will define Ericsson Silicon's EDA ecosystem strategy, establish strategic vendor partnerships, and drive measurable improvements in tool capability and cost efficiency across the organization. Success means engineering teams have the right tools at the right time, vendor relationships are operating at a strategic level, and EDA investment decisions are data-driven and aligned with silicon program needs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vendor Management• Orchestrate the EDA framework strategy: Facilitate tool selection, track flow architecture requirements, manage the vendor portfolio, and coordinate technology node enablement with CAD leaders.• Develop the multi-year EDA capability roadmap (1-year tactical, 3-year strategic) by aligning engineering requirements with the silicon product roadmap.• Drive vendor roadmap alignment, structure tool evaluations, and lead the negotiation and management of SOWs and technology access agreements.• Monitor emerging technologies (AI/ML-enabled EDA, cloud-native solutions) and drive collaborative build-vs-buy frameworks across organizations.
Capacity & Cost• Own the EDA license portfolio strategy: Track utilization optimization, drive demand forecasting, manage renewal planning, and deliver cost reduction.• Drive Design Environment capacity planning (compute, storage, licenses) and develop spend forecasting models based on CAD infrastructure inputs.• Build budget estimates and conduct total cost of ownership analyses for EDA ecosystem decisions.
Enablement & Communication• Support technical and methodology change across engineering sections; facilitate cross-functional access to tools, infrastructure, and automation.• Partner with CAD Engineering Managers to ensure EDA ecosystem decisions align with domain-level enablement needs and delivery priorities.• Support cross-site coordination for EDA consistency; build collaboration across internal teams and external partners.
Long Description
What you will Bring:• Several years of experience in the semiconductor or EDA industry; including direct experience in EDA/CAD-related roles (methodology, infrastructure, vendor-facing, or technical program management).• Comprehensive understanding of the RTL-to-GDSII design flow with ability to evaluate tool capabilities and identify flow bottlenecks.• Deep familiarity with commercial EDA tools from at least two major vendors.• Proven experience managing strategic EDA vendor relationships - roadmap discussions, evaluations, SOWs, and executive-level engagement.• Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions and influence senior engineering leadership without direct authority.• Track record of managing horizontal domain delivery across multiple programs, teams, and geographies.• Executive-level communication skills; concise, precise, and effective across engineering, vendor, and leadership audiences.• M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.• Prior hands-on engineering background (CAD/EDA, physical design, synthesis) with transition to strategic technical leadership.• Experience enabling EDA flows for advanced nodes (7nm and below).• Enterprise-scale EDA license portfolio management (multi-million-dollar spend, hundreds of users).• Experience building EDA ecosystems or vendor engagement models from early maturity.• Multi-site operations experience across US and Europe.• Financial acumen: contract negotiations, TCO analysis, build-vs-buy investment cases.• Knowledge of AI/ML-enabled EDA capabilities and cloud/hybrid compute strategies.• Established relationships within the EDA vendor ecosystem at technical and executive levels.
