Values

Boldness: Corvanauts have the confidence and courage to question status quo for the products we make and the relationships we cultivate.

Own End-to-End: We take ownership of what we start and see it through to completion through trust and dependability.

Transparency: It's crucial to be open and honest and consistent with updates and data flow with customers and colleagues. We value the free-flowing of information and data to make better decisions.

Bias Action: Corvanauts don't sit still - our default mode is taking action! We make progress through high-quality iterations. Failure is built into the process and success is defined by the number of shots on goal.

About the role

  • The Drilling Advisor is the technical authority within Corva's iROC for directional drilling and drilling engineering optimization. Rather than live shift monitoring, this role works a standard schedule and focuses on the analysis that drives step-change performance: reviewing completed and in-progress wells, benchmarking performance across rigs and programs, identifying optimization opportunities, and translating findings into clear recommendations and reports for customers. The Drilling Advisor is also the iROC's knowledge hub, capturing lessons learned, building best-practice guidance, and raising the technical capability of both iROC advisors and customer teams. This role requires deep hands-on directional drilling experience paired with strong engineering analysis and communication skills. The Drilling Advisor collaborates closely with iROC peers, Solutions Engineering, Operations, and Product Development to continuously improve Corva's applications and workflows.

What you'll do
Directional drilling and engineering optimization

  • Analyze directional performance across customer wells, including natural build/drop/walk tendencies, slide-sheet effectiveness, motor yields, and tortuosity, to recommend operational strategies that minimize directional work.
  • Evaluate BHA and motor performance, drilling parameters, and dysfunction signatures to identify optimization opportunities for upcoming wells.
  • Produce pre-well recommendations such as directional analog studies, parameter roadmaps, and no-slide-zone plans grounded in offset well data within Corva.
  • Review well plans, anti-collision constraints, and target requirements to advise on achievable well paths and design opportunities.

Benchmarking and reporting

  • Build and maintain performance benchmarks across rigs, crews, BHAs, and programs (ROP, connection times, slide percentage, ILT, NPT) using Corva's analytics and data tools.
  • Deliver end-of-well, pad, and program-level performance reports that quantify results, lessons learned, and the value delivered through the iROC.
  • Develop KPI frameworks and dashboards that give customers a consistent, objective view of drilling and directional performance over time.
  • Present findings to customer drilling engineers, superintendents, and management in clear, decision-oriented formats.
  • Track and document iROC value metrics, including NPT avoided, directional work reduced, and days saved, to support customer retention and growth.

Knowledge sharing

  • Identify and document lessons learned from every well into a structured knowledge base that informs future recommendations and iROC procedures.
  • Develop best-practice guides, SOPs, and training material on directional drilling, drilling optimization, and effective use of Corva's Drilling and Directional Drilling Suites.
  • Lead technical training sessions and lunch-and-learns for iROC advisors, internal teams, and customer personnel.
  • Mentor iROC monitoring advisors, elevating the quality and consistency of the real-time guidance they provide.
  • Relay customer feedback, workflow gaps, and app enhancement ideas to Solutions Engineering and Development, and contribute to case studies and customer success assets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of on-site Directional Drilling experience (DD, MWD, or equivalent).
  • 2+ years in a drilling engineering, drilling optimization, or remote operations (RTOC) role with responsibility for performance analysis and reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of well planning, anti-collision, BHA and motor performance, drilling dysfunction, and hole cleaning.
  • Proven ability to turn large, multi-well datasets into clear, actionable engineering recommendations; hands-on experience with real-time drilling software platforms, with Corva experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing KPIs, benchmarks, and performance reports for technical and management audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English and Spanish.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfort with Excel-based analysis required, exposure to Python, SQL, or BI tools a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and build technical capability in others.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Standard business-hours schedule, with occasional flexibility to support critical well events or customer time zones.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time for rig-site visits and customer engagements.
  • Expected travel up to 35%

If you have a passion for directional drilling, a knack for finding performance in the data, and a drive to share what you learn, we'd love to hear from you!
