About this role:We’re excited to be hiring for a Documentation Team Lead to lead and scale the product docs at Astronomer, shaping the content strategy and user experience for Astronomer and Apache Airflow users worldwide. Astronomer’s documentation is recognized as some of the best in the industry, and this role plays a critical part in ensuring it remains world-class as our products and audience continue to grow.
As the Docs Lead, you’ll set the vision for how documentation supports our customers, guides our open source community, and differentiates our products. If you’re a product-minded technical writer and content leader who thrives at the intersection of engineering, product, and design—and you’re passionate about building high-quality technical content that educates and empowers users—this role is for you.
What you get to do:Create a comprehensive content strategy for the Astronomer commercial product and open source project documentation.
Collaborate with the Product and Engineering organization to prioritize content development, operations, and content infrastructure improvement.
Collaborate with stakeholders in Marketing and DevRel to deliver timely, supportive feature documentation for new launches.
Lead and develop the Astronomer Docs team.
Write and maintain high-quality documentation across product areas, including product guides, tutorials, API references, and release notes.
Level-up the docs infrastructure tooling used by the docs team to create consistently high-quality docs, automate style guide suggestions (such as vale.sh), and define AI use cases.
7+ years of experience recommended, including experience leading teams to deliver SaaS, API, OSS, and on-premise technical product documentation.
Proficiency in Git, GitHub, and version control tooling.
Strong project management skills — you can work with teams and a list of cross-functional priorities to create actionable plans that deliver excellent content, on time.
Enough familiarity with Kubernetes and Helm that you can read through values.yaml files and understand how they relate to feature enablement.
Knowledge of the processes for publishing API docs and other kinds of product documentation.
Conversant in cloud provider services and concepts like infrastructure management, authentication, and enterprise needs.
Knowledge of React.js
Knowledge of Apache Airflow
Localization project management experience
Fern Docs tooling experience
The estimated salary for this role ranges from $140,000 - $170,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
