The Division Physician Executive is a senior physician leader responsible for clinical excellence, physician leadership, clinician engagement, and program culture across a portfolio of hospital partnerships.

As a member of the Division Leadership Team, this leader works in shared accountability with the Vice President of Operations and Divisional Director of Clinical Operations for the overall performance and health of the division. The Division Physician Executive serves as the primary accountable leader for clinical quality, clinical leader effectiveness, professional practice, and physician engagement.

The role leads primarily through partnership, influence, and the development of local Clinical Leaders, ensuring alignment among Core’s priorities, hospital partner objectives, and program-level execution. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Align clinical strategy with operational, financial, quality, and partner priorities to advance division-level performance and sustainable program execution. 
  • Provide senior clinical leadership for the division, with shared accountability for program performance, hospital partner satisfaction, clinician engagement, contract health, and long-term partnership objectives. 
  • Use performance data, partner feedback, and Core priorities to identify risks, focus leadership attention, and accelerate improvement in quality, safety, throughput, patient experience, documentation, utilization, and hospital priorities. 
  • Serve as a senior physician executive liaison to hospital executives, medical staff leaders, and strategic stakeholders, contributing clinical perspective to business reviews, operating dashboards, planning, and escalation decisions. 
  • Set expectations for high-performing program cultures grounded in trust, accountability, transparency, collaboration, recognition, wellness, retention, and clinical excellence. 
  • Promote evidence-informed clinical standards, Core best practices, and disciplined follow-through on division and program improvement efforts. 
  • Develop and strengthen clinical leaders as accountable, effective local leaders. 
  • Provide executive coaching on leadership effectiveness, communication, accountability, team dynamics, stakeholder relationships, clinician performance concerns, and change leadership. 
  • Lead clinical leader selection, onboarding, evaluation, development planning, and succession readiness.   

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: 

  • Executive presence, clinical credibility, and ability to lead through influence, partnership, and accountability. 
  • Strong coaching, talent development, succession planning, and leadership-development skills across multiple programs or geographic markets. 
  • Working knowledge of Just Culture, root cause analysis, professional practice evaluation, peer review, quality improvement, and clinician performance processes. 
  • Ability to use data, partner feedback, and operational priorities to inform decisions and drive follow-through. 
  • Skilled in navigating conflict, ambiguity, competing priorities, stakeholder relationships, and change leadership. 
  • Clear, direct, empathetic communication style with consistent follow-through and commitment to closing the loop. 
  • Ability to travel regularly to hospital partner locations and Core leadership meetings. 

Requirements

Education: 

  • MD or DO degree and board certification in Emergency, Internal or Family Medicine. 
  • Active, unrestricted medical license and eligibility for licensure within applicable markets. 

Experience: 

  • Significant clinical practice and progressive physician leadership experience.
  • Experience overseeing clinical quality, physician leadership, peer review, or multi-program performance.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience practicing Emergency Medicine or Hospital Medicine. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical, professional, and hospital partner concerns.

Supervisory Requirements: 

  • Will directly supervise a team of clinical leaders. 
  • Will work closely with Vice President Operations in supporting and guiding Regional Directors of Operations. 

Work Environment: 

  • Generally, an office setting with occasional on-site work within hospital or healthcare settings. 
  • On average, four clinical shifts per month.
