Is it surprising to hear that a financial institution of 1.5 million members and over $30 billion in managed assets say that success comes from focusing on people, not profits?
Our “people helping people” philosophy has guided us since 1935, driving our deep commitment to serving our members, communities, and each other. When you join our team, you become part of a purpose-driven organization where your work makes a real difference.
While we’re proud of our history, we’re even more excited about our future. With business and technology transformation on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to be part of BECU.

You bring more than your expertise to your role, and that matters here. Your story, perspectives, and lived experiences help shape belonging at BECU and deepen how we connect with and support our employees, our members, and our communities.

IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

As Director Technology, you’ll lead a broad portfolio of financial-services technology that directly shapes how BECU serves its members across payments, financial health, wealth management, small business, lending, and credit cards. You’ll connect technology strategy to business and member outcomes while leading engineering and delivery teams responsible for critical platforms and initiatives. You’ll drive modernization through cloud, APIs, SaaS solutions, modern architecture, DevOps, and more efficient technology operating models. Just as importantly, you’ll work across Product, Operations, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Technology to anticipate dependencies, remove barriers, and keep complex initiatives moving forward. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful transformation today while expanding your enterprise leadership scope for the future.

To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, SC, NC, CA or VA. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.  For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

  • Own a High-Impact Portfolio:  Lead technology delivery across financial health, payments, wealth management, small business, lending, and credit cards, with accountability for understanding the complete delivery ecosystem and driving successful outcomes.
  • Anticipate Risks & Dependencies:  Look beyond Technology’s portion of an initiative to proactively uncover dependencies and potential blockers across Product, Operations, Legal, Risk, Compliance, architecture, APIs, development, testing, and other teams before they affect delivery.
  • Drive Technology Modernization:  Identify opportunities to modernize legacy platforms and operating models through cloud, APIs, SaaS solutions, automation, modern architecture, and reduced infrastructure complexity.
  • Identify Innovative Solutions:  Serve as a technology subject matter expert, evaluating market solutions and leading the development and execution of RFPs, business cases, and project charters for strategic initiatives.
  • Build & Develop a High-Performance Team:  Lead, coach, mentor, and develop technology professionals while setting clear expectations, providing timely performance feedback, and building talent and succession depth.
  • Advance Engineering Excellence:  Oversee technical requirements, engineering, and technology delivery across projects and continuous delivery teams while advancing Agile practices, quality engineering, automation, CI/CD, testing, and modern software development practices.
  • Build Integrated Roadmaps:  Partner closely with business and Product leaders to co-create technology and business roadmaps that connect strategic priorities with operational and tactical execution.
  • Create Strong Enterprise Partnerships:  Build trusted relationships across Product, Operations, Technology, project management, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and other stakeholders, creating shared accountability for outcomes rather than operating within organizational silos.
  • Lead Governance & Planning:  Provide leadership across Technology and business governance, planning, prioritization, initiative reviews, workgroups, and leadership forums.
  • Manage Portfolio Financials:  Participate in the annual operating plan and ensure planned and unplanned technology initiatives have comprehensive financial plans, including infrastructure and lifecycle costs.
  • Lead Vendors & Strategic Partners:  Review vendor Statements of Work (SOWs) and contracts, oversee external resources and technology partners, and manage performance, delivery, service levels, escalations, and outcomes.
  • Optimize Delivery:  Collaborate with key stakeholders on product roadmaps, priorities, features, and functionality to improve delivery and achieve meaningful business and member outcomes.
  • Measure Results:  Establish and document OKRs and KPIs that create alignment, provide transparency, and demonstrate progress against strategic initiatives.
  • Stay Ahead of the Technology Landscape:  Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies, financial-services trends, engineering practices, and emerging solutions so you can bring informed recommendations to BECU.
  • Create a Culture of Growth & Agility:  Foster continuous learning, innovation, quality, accountability, and agility while strengthening the technology capabilities required for BECU’s future.

This isn’t just about ticking off tasks on a list. It's about making a significant, positive change in BECU’s journey, where your contributions are valued, and your growth is continually fostered.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN:

  • Transformation at Scale:  Shape modernization across a multifaceted financial-services portfolio using APIs, cloud, SaaS, automation, and modern engineering practices.
  • Enterprise Leadership Exposure:  Work across Technology, Product, Operations, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and delivery organizations, giving you visibility and influence well beyond a traditional technology leadership role.
  • Career Growth:  Take on broad strategic and operational responsibilities that can strengthen your readiness for expanded executive-level technology leadership.
  • A Diverse Leadership Challenge:  Lead employees, technical disciplines, vendors, and contingent resources while strengthening team capabilities and creating sustainable delivery models.
