Role Overview

The Director, Technology Operations & Sustainment leads the organization responsible for the effectiveness of Leidos Energy’s current technology baseline, including Business Area-owned networks and specialized energy hardware and software. The team ensures these capabilities are reliable, secure, supported, and effectively used while continuously improving the environment as business needs evolve.

The opportunity is to move beyond traditional technology support and create an environment in which technology measurably improves how Energy employees perform their work. This leader will help shape the technology organization for the combined Leidos Energy business, bringing together the capabilities, experience, and strengths of Leidos and ENTRUST.

Key Responsibilities

Own and Improve the Current Technology Baseline

  • Lead the operation, sustainment, and lifecycle management of Business Area-owned technology.
  • Ensure critical capabilities are reliable, secure, resilient, supportable, and appropriate for Energy’s needs.
  • Simplify the technology environment by addressing obsolescence, unnecessary complexity, fragmentation, and technical debt.
  • Assume ongoing ownership of new or improved capabilities following successful deployment and transition into the technology baseline.

Enable the Energy Workforce

  • Develop a strong understanding of how Energy employees use technology to perform engineering, technical, and business work.
  • Identify and remove technology-related friction, capability gaps, and barriers to effective work.
  • Improve workflows through better use of existing capabilities, automation, simplification, and user enablement.
  • Use operational experience and employee feedback to identify opportunities requiring more significant changes to the technology baseline.

Lead Technology Operations

  • Establish priorities based on business impact, operational risk, user needs, and technology health.
  • Partner with Innovation & Deployment when significant changes or new capabilities are required.
  • Manage the organization, portfolio, resources, investments, and external providers necessary to deliver the mission.
  • Provide the Energy CTO and Business Area leadership with clear insight into technology health, risks, priorities, and investment needs.
  • Build an effective, engaged team by bringing together existing capabilities, developing people and leaders, and creating opportunities for talent across the combined Energy organization.

Leadership Expectations

  • Own outcomes, not infrastructure. Measure success by how effectively technology enables the business.
  • Understand the user. Stay close to employees and how work is actually performed.
  • Improve while sustaining. Keep critical capabilities operating while continuously making the environment better and simpler.
  • Lead to yes. Work across security, policy, architecture, and organizational boundaries to find responsible solutions.
  • Operate as one technology organization. Apply capabilities and resources across team and organizational boundaries to achieve the best business outcome.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical discipline and 12+ years of relevant professional experience; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical organizations and multidisciplinary teams, including developing technical leaders.
  • Demonstrated leadership of significant operational technology capabilities and experience improving how a technical or engineering workforce uses technology to perform its work.
  • Ability to translate employee and business needs into technology priorities and communicate technology choices, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to senior business and technical leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex technology environments and lead across organizational boundaries, including responsibility for significant technology resources, investments, and external providers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical or business discipline.
  • Deep understanding of energy, utility, engineering, or another engineering-intensive business, including how technology enables the work of technical professionals.
  • Experience modernizing established technology environments while maintaining operational continuity.
  • Experience operating successfully in a large, matrixed organization.
