Position Summary

The Director, Technical Operations & Document Control leads two critical functions within our Data Center division: the Technical Council and the Document Control team. The Technical Council is a group of subject matter experts who resolve complex technical issues that arise during engineering execution and serve as the technical resource for our Sales organization. The Document Control team of seven manages project documentation, including submittal packaging and customer transmittals through Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and Procore, along with company-wide documentation governance, SharePoint administration, and documentation standards.

This is a metrics-driven leadership role. The successful candidate will bring a strong engineering foundation, the credibility to lead senior technical experts, and a demonstrated ability to build and operate KPI frameworks that measurably improve response time and quality. You will balance the pace required to close open technical issues with the discipline to build durable documentation systems that scale alongside a rapidly growing project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Council Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of subject matter experts serving as the primary escalation path for deep technical issues arising during engineering execution.
  • Establish clear intake, triage, and resolution workflows to ensure technical challenges are routed and resolved with urgency and rigor.
  • Drive rapid issue closure by removing blockers, mobilizing the right expertise, and holding the team to aggressive resolution timelines.
  • Build and maintain a technical knowledge base that captures lessons learned, prevent recurring issues, and reduces repeat escalations over time.

Metrics and Performance Management

  • Define, implement, and own the KPI framework for the Technical Council, including issue resolution cycle time and first-pass resolution rate.
  • Build dashboards and reporting mechanisms providing leadership real-time visibility into technical issue volume, aging, and resolution performance.
  • Analyze issue trends to surface systemic engineering or design problems and partner with Engineering leadership on root-cause corrective action.
  • Identify and implement tooling, automation, and process improvements that increase throughput across both teams.

Document Control Leadership

  • Lead a team of document control specialists supporting both project and company documentation needs.
  • Own project documentation workflows including submittal packaging, review coordination, and customer transmittals through ACC and Procore.
  • Ensure submittal accuracy, completeness, and on-time delivery against project schedules and customer commitments.
  • Own company documentation governance, including SharePoint architecture, structure, permissions, and version control.
  • Establish and enforce documentation protocol across the organization, including naming conventions, revision control, retention, and access standards.
  • Drive adoption of documentation standards company-wide, partnering with functional leaders to close compliance gaps.
  • Scale documentation systems and processes to support a growing project portfolio without proportional headcount growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in engineering, technical services, or engineering operations, including 4+ years leading teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading senior technical experts, with the credibility to guide SMEs without being the deepest expert in every domain.
  • Proven track record building and operating KPI frameworks that measurably improved team performance.
  • Experience owning documentation systems, workflows, or configuration/document control functions.
  • Strong understanding of energy storage systems, medium-voltage electrical infrastructure, and the technical issues that arise during engineering execution.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications sufficient to guide technical resolution.
  • Experience with document management platforms; familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procore, and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to report clearly to executive leadership and engage credibly with customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel to project sites across the U.S. as needed (25- 30%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience supporting data center, hyperscale, or colocation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working on EPC or design-build projects in the energy or critical infrastructure sector in North America.
  • Background in EPC, OEM, or systems integration environments.
  • PMP, Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent process and quality certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Experience scaling functions through periods of rapid organizational growth.
