Director, Systems Analysis (Quality Engineering Capabilities)

This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa or Scottsdale, Arizona office 2 days per week on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Remote internal associates may also be considered.

• Defines and drives Nationwide’s enterprise strategy for quality engineering and requirements analysis, establishing the standards, operating patterns, governance, and enablement needed to improve software quality while accelerating safe delivery.

• Sets the strategic direction for AI-enabled testing and analysis capabilities that increase automation, strengthen requirements-to-test traceability, and improve delivery confidence across the software development lifecycle.

• Advances modern, scalable approaches to test automation, intelligent test design, self-service test data, and requirements analysis practices that enable faster feedback, stronger controls, and greater engineering productivity.

• Establishes the quality engineering and requirements analysis practices needed to support more frequent release cycles, enabling delivery teams to progress toward weekly and daily deployments while maintaining appropriate levels of security, quality, resilience, and risk control.

• Applies a strong software engineering mindset and credible software engineering background to translate enterprise strategy into measurable adoption, delivery, quality, and productivity outcomes.

• Builds repeatable practices for AI-ready engineering and supports the evolution toward semi-autonomous and autonomous delivery models, ensuring quality, security, and requirements practices are embedded earlier in the delivery lifecycle.

• Defines and tracks enterprise measures of adoption, effectiveness, quality, delivery velocity, and business value to demonstrate the impact of quality engineering, requirements analysis, automation, and AI-enabled delivery investments.

• Leads enterprise enablement and adoption activities that help technology teams implement consistent quality engineering, requirements analysis, test automation, intelligent testing, and AI-assisted delivery practices.

• Influences and collaborates with senior stakeholders across Software Engineering, Architecture, Security, and business leadership to align enterprise priorities, investment decisions, operating practices, and execution with Nationwide’s modernization and delivery objectives.

• Provides enterprise leadership for the continuous improvement of quality engineering and requirements analysis capabilities, identifying opportunities to reduce delivery friction, improve feedback cycles, strengthen controls, and scale engineering excellence across products, platforms, and lines of business.

As a Technology Analysis Director, you will hire and coach Technology Analysis associates and ensure all products and services meet business requirements and end user needs through digital transformation, automation, quality and excellence.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the hiring, compensation and performance management of their team and the development of Technology Analysis talent by providing coaching and feedback. 

• Oversees quality of work delivered by Technology Analysis professionals and deals effectively with quality issues in a timely manner. 

• Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

• Provides leadership, governance and encourages technology professionals to achieve software delivery goals through digitalization, automation, quality and excellence.

• Analyzes complex technology solutions and related analysis metrics.

• Oversees customer journeys, value streams or business capability roadmaps related to technology analysis practices. 

• Conducts technology planning within a business solution area bridging strategy with business and technology execution.

• Establishes and tracks key performance indicators related to technology investments, ensuring that business outcomes and business value tied to an investment are achieved.

• Translates complex and/or high-risk business outcomes into solution requirements. 

• Manages the complete requirements lifecycle from idea through implementation. 

• Serves as an analysis expert and possesses ability to facilitate sessions and utilize visual techniques.

• Provides leadership and overall quality engineering management to ensure all products and services meet business requirements and end user needs.

• Uses the appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management, test automation, security/vulnerability, performance, and regression testing needs.

• Responsible for complex defects including identifying, tracking, and providing critical thinking for resolution.

• Responsible for the coordination of all release testing efforts (including all phases of testing during the release life cycle).

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Technology AVP or above; responsible for 3-8 directs and in-directs. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:
 

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is preferred. 
 

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required but encouraged. 
 

Experience: More than 10 years of experience delivering technology-enabled business solutions and transformational change across industries, platforms and lines of businesses within the insurance and/or financial services industries or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience in technology analysis including business transformation planning, requirements management, and test automation.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Master analytical and communication skills and knowledge of planning. Ability to influence, build relationships, negotiate and set priorities needed. Strong executive presence. 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

The national salary range for Director, Systems Analysis : $149,000.00-$262,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Director, Systems Analysis : $149,000.00 - $223,000.00
