The Director of Sales at Smithfield drives strategic sales initiatives to maximize sales volume and margin growth, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and policies. This dynamic role involves sales forecasting, market analysis to address customer needs, and setting pricing, quotas, and sales territories. You will oversee channel development and product standardization to optimize profitability. Collaborating with category management and business development teams, the Director has financial responsibility for growing the base business in the assigned region.

From delivering impactful sales presentations and conducting customer business reviews to managing employee development and broker evaluations, this position offers an opportunity to lead all facets of the sales process while influencing the success of a renowned company.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Market Expansion: Expands market penetration and grows existing accounts within assigned channels.

  • Sales Team Leadership: Leads and develops sales teams, including staffing, training, and performance evaluations.

  • Fiscal Accountability: Ensures fiscal responsibility by adhering to assigned budgets and collaborating on annual and multi-year sales plans.

  • Reporting & Analysis: Delivers reports on business status, sales activity, forecasts, and pricing analysis.

  • Customer Account Management: Maintains superior account management and adjusts strategies based on market dynamics to drive growth.

  • Technical Expertise: Acts as a technical representative, providing training, presentations, and tailored solutions for customer challenges.

  • Relationship Building: Establishes long-term relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Growth & Project Management: Achieves growth while meeting profitability goals and overseeing cross-functional projects.

  • Leadership: Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.

WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 10+ years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required - Bachelor’s Degree is preferred

  • Leadership: 5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development required

  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the dynamics of the Consumer Packaged Goods industry.

  • Sales Expertise: Demonstrated experience in sales planning, forecasting, execution, and fact-based selling using tools like IRI, Nielsen, and Perishable Group.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Apple software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and SAP, preferred.

  • Account Management: Proven ability to grow accounts, achieve sales volume and margin growth, and act with urgency and self-direction.

  • Travel & Licensing: Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 75%.
