The Opportunity
The Director, Sales Technology is a strategic engineering leadership role responsible for building and evolving the technology capabilities that power MetLife's B2B sales transformation agenda. This leader will oversee engineering teams delivering modern digital experiences, workflow automation, sales enablement solutions, AI-powered capabilities, and enterprise integrations that improve productivity, advisor effectiveness, and customer outcomes.
The role combines hands-on technology leadership with people management responsibility. The successful candidate will drive delivery across multiple engineering teams while advancing AI-first software engineering practices, including the responsible use of AI copilots, AI agents, agentic workflows, and human-in-the-loop engineering processes to accelerate software development and improve quality. The position is accountable for software engineering execution across teams, software quality, reliability, talent development, and adoption of AI-first engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Strategy & Technology Leadership
  • Lead engineering execution for the B2B Sales Transformation portfolio, delivering scalable, secure, and resilient solutions that support sales growth and operational efficiency.
  • Define and execute technology roadmaps aligned to business priorities, digital transformation objectives, and enterprise architecture standards.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-first software engineering practices, including AI-assisted requirements generation, coding, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Establish engineering standards, reusable components, and inner-sourcing practices that improve developer productivity and delivery consistency.
  • Partner with Product Management, Architecture, Data, Security, and Platform Engineering teams to deliver integrated end-to-end solutions.
  • Lead the design and implementation of complex integrations across CRM, sales enablement, workflow, analytics, and enterprise platforms.
  • Ensure engineering teams deliver high-quality software through disciplined testing, observability, reliability engineering, and secure development practices.
  • Champion modernization initiatives, cloud-native architectures, API-first development, and AI-enabled automation across the portfolio.
  • Leverage engineering metrics, quality indicators, and flow measurements to continuously improve team performance and customer outcomes.
  • Represent software engineering in senior leadership discussions, planning forums, and transformation governance activities.

People Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers and engineering leaders.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, career development, and succession planning for engineering talent.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and responsible AI adoption.
  • Develop team capabilities in modern engineering practices, cloud technologies, AI-assisted development, and agentic software engineering approaches.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with progressive responsibility delivering enterprise-scale applications.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Proven experience leading multiple concurrent software delivery initiatives in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in modern software architecture, APIs, integration patterns, cloud technologies, and distributed systems.
  • Experience delivering customer-facing or business-critical platforms supporting sales, distribution, customer engagement, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of software quality, testing strategies, observability, reliability engineering, and secure development practices.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence business and technology leaders.
  • Strong verbal, written, and executive communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance speed, quality, risk, and business outcomes across multiple delivery teams.
  • Experience leading Agile product delivery and cross-functional engineering organizations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting B2B sales organizations, distribution platforms, CRM ( Salesforce.com ) ecosystems, sales enablement technologies, or customer acquisition capabilities.
  • Experience implementing AI-enabled products, intelligent automation, and agentic workflows.
  • Deep experience using AI copilots, AI agents, and human-in-the-loop engineering approaches to accelerate software development lifecycles.
  • Experience establishing AI governance, prompt engineering standards, and engineering guardrails for responsible AI adoption.
  • Experience leading cloud modernization and platform transformation initiatives.
  • Experience building engineering organizations that leverage AI-assisted development tools at scale.
  • Experience leading Digital Transformation initiatives supporting customer engagement, sales productivity, or commercial operations.
  • Insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industry experience.
  • Experience transforming engineering ways of working through automation, AI-first development practices, and modern delivery models.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $144,100 - $213,100 . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
