High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Director of Research Administration and Sponsored Programs. The Director of Research Administration and Sponsored Programs provides leadership and advocacy for the development and pre-award/ post-award administration of externally funded grants and related research functions for High Point University. The Director encourages and provides support to HPU faculty and staff in their pursuit and management of external funding for research and scholarly projects. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating HPU’s sponsored research program; disseminating information on external grants and awards; advising faculty members and staff in the preparation and submission of competitive proposals to external funders; ensuring compliance with both HPU and relevant agency policies; tracking sponsored research applications and results; facilitates sponsored research (pre- and post-award), both internal and external, whenever possible; and devising related training for faculty in proposal development and planning, and grants management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required
- Master’s degree in relevant field is preferred
Experience and Training:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Management is required
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
- Ability to assess, develop, maintain and deploy information systems to support the needs of sponsored research projects.
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators in various disciplines, and to represent the College effectively with funding agencies and the general public.
- Ability to work independently, with good professional judgment and minimal direction. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty, students, and external constituencies.
- Administrative experience in proposal development, budgeting, fiscal reporting, and project management required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of pre- and post-award processes and administration, and knowledge of federal policies and regulations as related to sponsored projects. Ability to interpret, explain, and apply complex regulations, policies, and procedures. Demonstrated ability to interact with government agencies.
- Demonstrated success in helping faculty members in various disciplines and staff prepare grant applications and submit research proposals to external funders.
- Experience using advanced features of word processing, database, spreadsheets, email, presentation, PDF, and web-based software to convert documents between various applications. Includes advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience using electronic research administration application software applications and programs such as Grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, NIH eRA Commons, and web-based applications for document sharing, uploading, storing, and organizing documents.
- Keen eye for detail, and demonstrated writing and editorial skills required to write and copy-edit reports, proposals, business correspondence, and policies.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational and prioritization, collaborative, and customer service skills.
- Time management skills required, with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews University academic and administrative policies relevant to sponsored research and implements policies and procedures designed to manage these areas.
- Develops long and short term goals and objectives for sponsored programs in keeping with the mission, goals and objectives of the University.
- Works with the various other University entities on policies and procedures related to the continuing improvement of the sponsored programs portfolio.
- Works with the Vice President of Research and Planning, deans, and program directors to support and communicate the culture of research on campus.
- Works with state and national associations involved with sponsored programs.
- Represents RASP on University committees and provides information and recommendations concerning the operational facets of the sponsored programs within the University.
- Serves as the point of contact for sponsored programs compliance matters.
- Oversees all aspects of sponsored programs service to University stakeholders.
- Works with the Vice President for Research and Planning on the establishment of annual operating budgets.
- Engages in regular assessment and planning processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
