Job Type: Full-Time l Location: San Francisco  l Department: AI Infrastructure Supply Chain l Reporting to: Senior Director, HW Quality & PLM | Work Location Type: #Hybrid
IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.
IREN is looking for a Director of Quality to own supplier quality across its AI infrastructure supply chain — setting the quality expectations suppliers must meet, writing them into contracts, assessing supplier quality systems, and leading supplier quality reviews. You'll lead the SQE/CQE team covering rack power and backup power devices, CDUs and liquid cooling components, transceivers, cabling and interconnects, and switches. Rack-level system quality and first article execution sit with peer teams in HW Quality & PLM; your focus is the suppliers and commodities that feed them. You'll report to the Senior Director, HW Quality & PLM, with a mandate to shape how IREN manages supplier quality at scale.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high performance compute. We belive that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way - responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
Job requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in supplier or commodity quality, including leading SQE/CQE teams; hyperscaler, AI cloud, data center, or network/server OEM experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven supplier quality experience for electrical, mechanical, and electronic commodities such as rack power and backup power devices, liquid cooling components, transceivers and cabling, and network switches.
  • Hands-on experience writing supplier quality agreements and quality exhibit content for supplier contracts.
  • Deep working knowledge of supplier QMS audits and assessments (ISO 9001), APQP/PPAP, SPC, FMEA, and 8D.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience establishing shared quality metrics, scorecards, and data feeds with global suppliers, using QMS and analytics tools such as ERP quality modules or Power BI.
  • Strong executive presence and cross-functional collaboration skills; equally at home with suppliers, Sourcing, engineering, and senior leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred
  • Strong technical understanding of liquid cooling technologies and applications (CDUs, smart valves, quick disconnects), high-speed optics, and data center switching.
  • Certifications such as ASQ CQE, CQM/OE, CSQP, or ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
  • MBA or advanced degree in Engineering.
Other important requirements
  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • This role requires willingness to travel domestically and internationally to supplier and vendor sites, data centers, and industry events.
  • IREN does not yet have an office in the Bay Area (a Santa Clara office is planned); until it opens, this role will work remotely, transitioning to hybrid on-site work once the office is established.

Job responsibilities
  • Own supplier quality delivery end-to-end: define IREN's overall quality expectations for suppliers, including requirements, acceptance criteria, and escalation paths.
  • Build and lead the Supplier and Commodity Quality Engineering (SQE/CQE) team, establishing best practices, KPIs, and governance cadences as IREN's supplier base scales.
  • Define and maintain standard quality exhibits for supplier agreements — quality agreements, defect and corrective action terms, change notification, and warranty — and ensure they are captured into new and renewed contracts.
  • Evaluate supplier quality management systems through audits and assessments against ISO 9001 and applicable standards, recommending approval status and setting a risk-based re-audit cadence.
  • Establish aligned quality metrics, defect definitions, and reporting formats with suppliers so their data can be ingested into IREN data systems for analysis.
  • Lead recurring quality reviews with suppliers covering performance, open issues, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
  • Drive supplier corrective action (SCAR/8D) and supplier development, escalating suppliers with persistent performance gaps.
  • Direct commodity-level quality work, including incoming quality, component failure analysis with suppliers (including review of RMA data), supplier manufacturing process controls, and review of product and process change notices (PCNs).
  • Partner with the Sourcing team on quality exhibit content for supplier agreements and supplier performance as defined within those agreements, and participate in business reviews that include quality performance information.
  • Partner with HW Quality & PLM peers to define a clear hand-off between commodity quality and rack-level system quality, and route field issues back to the right commodity supplier.
  • Own the supplier quality scorecard and dashboards, driving continuous improvement in supplier defect rates and corrective action closure times.
  • Drive supplier technology to meet delivery timelines per deployment schedule
