Position SummaryThe Director of Projects is a senior operational leader responsible for the successful planning, execution, and financial performance of a portfolio of projects across Primoris Pipeline Inc. This role provides leadership and oversight for transmission, distribution, integrity management, facility, and related energy infrastructure projects while ensuring exceptional safety performance, operational excellence, financial accountability, and client satisfaction.
The Director of Projects leads and develops project management teams, establishes clear performance expectations, and ensures projects are executed in accordance with contractual requirements, company standards, and business objectives. This position works closely with Construction, Operations, Estimating, Business Development, Finance, Safety, Quality, and other functional leaders to manage risk, optimize resources, strengthen project performance, and support the continued growth of PPI.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and oversight for the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple pipeline and energy infrastructure projects, ensuring performance against safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and cost expectations.
Maintain accountability for project and portfolio financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, cost controls, change management, and commercial risk.
Monitor project performance, identify emerging operational, financial, contractual, and schedule risks, and implement timely corrective actions.
Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and project leadership teams while establishing clear expectations and accountability for results.
Partner with Construction, Operations, Safety, Quality, Finance, Estimating, and other functional teams to align resources and support successful project execution.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, serve as a senior escalation point for critical project matters, and support customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Ensure projects comply with company standards, contractual requirements, and applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Support preconstruction, estimating, and business development efforts by providing input on execution strategy, constructability, staffing, scheduling, risk, and project requirements.
Drive continuous improvement in project delivery, project controls, resource planning, and operational efficiency across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field; equivalent relevant construction experience may be considered.
- 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in pipeline, utility, energy infrastructure, or related construction environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex construction projects and multiple project teams.
- Proven experience managing project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, change management, and risk.
- Strong understanding of construction project management, field operations, scheduling, productivity, contracts, and project controls.
- Working knowledge of pipeline construction methods and applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold project management teams accountable for performance.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to evaluate project risk and make sound business decisions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and client relationship skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate project and financial performance to senior and executive leadership.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites, offices, and client locations as required.
- Experience within pipeline transmission, distribution, integrity management, facilities, or related energy infrastructure construction.
- Experience managing a portfolio of large-scale or geographically dispersed projects.
- Experience working within EPC, self-perform construction, or large specialty-contractor environments.
- Experience managing complex client contracts, change orders, claims, and commercial negotiations.
- Experience leading and developing Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
- Familiarity with Primoris systems, processes, project controls, and operating practices or similar large-contractor frameworks.
