Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the DPU team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for an engineer with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.  

We are looking for a Director, Program Management to join the team. 


Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Cross-Functional Execution  

  • Own end-to-end delivery of large-scale cross-organizational programs spanning multiple engineering teams and platform components.  
  • Drive cross-organizational initiatives spanning engineering, operations, and business teams to deliver strategic priorities.  
  • Partner across multiple engineering orgs to align roadmaps, resourcing, and drive compliance with security and quality standards.  
  • Remove blockers, mitigate risks, and escalate issues to leadership to maintain program momentum and delivery.  

Program Coordination and Execution Oversight  

  • Coordinate cross-divisional program execution across engineering and business teams to ensure alignment on priorities, milestones, and delivery timelines.  
  • Monitor program progress and provide leadership visibility into key milestones, risks, and performance metrics.  
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure accountability for program execution and alignment with organizational strategy.  
  • Support leadership reviews and business updates by synthesizing program insights and progress across initiatives.  

Operational Excellence and Organizational Scale  

  • Improve processes, tools, and reporting frameworks that increase visibility into program performance and organizational priorities.  
  •  Define scalable program governance models and execution frameworks that enable multiple teams and organizations to deliver complex cross-organizational initiatives.  
  • Drive adoption of scalable processes, automation, and AI-enabled workflows that improve engineering productivity and accelerate platform innovation.  
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen execution discipline and operational effectiveness across teams.  

Performance Management and Continuous Improvement  

  • Define and track program success metrics, including operational KPIs, delivery milestones, and organizational impact indicators.  
  • Monitor program performance and identify opportunities to improve outcomes through experimentation, iteration, and data-driven insights.  
  • Communicate program progress, insights, and risks to leadership and partner organizations to ensure transparency and alignment.  
  • Drive continuous improvement across programs by identifying process improvements, operational efficiencies, and opportunities for innovation.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience. 
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. 

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
