The Role
Morningstar Retirement is looking for an experienced professional to lead the product management team that supports our Retirement Manager Platform and Fiduciary Services and MPA products in our Mumbai office. The Director of Product Management is responsible for developing and elevating a team of product owners into high-performing contributors who can independently drive product outcomes. Creating a high performing product culture, developing staff, and ensuring cross-functional development teams deliver on their commitments.
You will bring structure, accountability, and a proactive mindset to a team that is navigating an exciting but demanding period of product transformation where AI is reshaping how we think, build, prioritize, and deliver. You and your team will act as product experts and strategists to translate market trends, customer needs, competitive intelligence, and Morningstar intellectual methodology into product solutions that solve user problems and drive measurable business outcomes. This role has direct personnel management responsibility over a small but growing team of product managers and influence over the broader cross-functional development and delivery teams they support. This position is based in our Mumbai office.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Coach and mentor a team of product managers, closing skill gaps and growing their ownership of the full product lifecycle from discovery through delivery
Create a culture of accountability where team members understand business objectives and are consistently working on the highest priority outcomes
Provide direct and constructive feedback through regular 1:1s, and build individual development plans that reflect both business needs and career aspirations
Provide overall leadership for product management discipline, culture, and staff on the software development side in Mumbai.
Roadmap & Prioritization
Ensure the team maintains a clear, well-sequenced roadmap aligned to business objectives, and that every product owner understands why their work matters
Identify when priorities are misaligned and course correct quickly to ensure resources are delivering on the right objectives
Work with product and business leaders across the organization to inform and implement a product vision that advances their business goals
Delivery & Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with engineering, design, project management, and business stakeholders to maintain a predictable delivery cadence
Proactively identify product development and operational inefficiencies and drive solutions that increase throughput
Work with cross-functional leaders to determine technology, design, and project management resource requirements to execute product strategy and deliver on commitments
Act as a subject matter expert on related product capabilities, liaising with global Morningstar leadership.
Measurement & Accountability
Champion the product management team's use of data for development and testing of hypotheses, managing KPIs and measurements of product success (e.g. monthly usage, user satisfaction, quality, uptime, time to market, etc.).
Aggregate and communicate KPIs to stakeholders, with clear recommendations and actions
AI Competency
Champion AI Competency within the product management role from using AI tools in daily productivity to safely develop AI features that create value and business outcomes in our products.
Build AI literacy as a baseline expectation across the team, developing the skills needed to build and leverage AI-powered products responsibly
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in product management, with 3+ years of managerial experience
  • Demonstrated track record of building high-performing product teams, with a focus on developing people and driving outcomes
  • Strong knowledge of product development, lifecycle and agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of the retirement industry is a plus
  • Experience integrating AI into product development workflows or building AI-enabled features
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced cross-functional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present clearly to senior leadership and global stakeholders
  • Proactive problem solver who brings solutions forward
  • Willingness to collaborate with global colleagues across time zones
