Company Overview:

Do you enjoy making a difference in a child's life, transforming education, and evolving learning? Come join Teachstone, the interaction company! Teachstone® was founded in 2008 to deliver the Classroom Assessment Scoring System® (CLASS®) nationwide and around the globe. Developed through years of research, the CLASS observation tool measures the interactions between teachers and children, which have been shown to drive learning and lifelong achievement. Teachstone helps organizations conduct classroom observations and provides professional development so that teachers improve, and children learn more. Our online subscription service, myTeachstone, simplifies CLASS implementation by combining observation data with a robust library of CLASS resources and professional development.

At Teachstone, everything we do is about improving the ways teachers interact with their students. We train coaches and observers, build and deliver online support programs, design professional development – all of it grounded in one proven fact: the interactions teachers have with students have a lasting impact on their academic and developmental success. By helping educators describe, measure and improve their interactions and relationships with students, Teachstone is transforming education nationwide, one interaction at a time.

Role Overview:

Are you driven by the challenge of creating products that users can’t resist? At Teachstone, we’re not just building professional development programs—we’re on a mission to reimagine online learning and make it as captivating as your favorite Tik-Tok reels. As the Director of Product Design, you’ll not only lead a team of passionate Product Designers but also build that team from the ground up. You’ll establish the foundation of a world-class design organization while shaping the future of our design strategy. Your goal? To create experiences that aren’t just functional but magnetic—where every interaction drives conversion, boosts adoption, and keeps users hooked.

We’re looking for someone who thrives on pushing boundaries and knows how to inspire a team to do the same. If you geek out on user psychology, have a deep love for Cugleman’s insights, and feel Kathy Sierra speaks your language, you’ll fit right in. If you’re ready to reinvent how people learn online, we’re ready for you.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing product design team, defining the hiring strategy and nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Develop and execute a design vision that aligns with both user needs and company goals, constantly pushing the limits of what’s possible.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a scalable design system that ensures consistency across all products and platforms, empowering the team to move faster and more efficiently.
  • Own the end-to-end product design process, from ideation to launch, ensuring a seamless and sticky user journey.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Impact, and Marketing teams to deliver designs that enhance user engagement and retention.
  • Champion user research and data insights to inform design decisions that impact conversion rates, usage, and product adoption.
  • Advocate for innovative, user-centric design thinking across the organization.
  • Mentor and inspire designers, driving both personal and professional growth while ensuring high-quality output from the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of product design experience, with a proven track record of leading design teams in SaaS or tech companies.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end design work that has driven real user engagement and conversion growth.
  • Deep expertise in user-centered design, user research, user psychology, and interaction design principles.
  • Experience building and scaling design teams in high-growth environments, including hiring, team development, and creating a strong design culture.
  • Expertise in creating and managing design systems that promote consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire designers to produce their best work.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and cross-functional partners with an articulate and clear design vision.

What We Offer:

  • Fair, Competitive Pay:  We ensure equal pay for equal work, using consistent salary bands based on market benchmarks, reviewed annually. Prior salaries, negotiation skills, or fear of conflict don’t influence your pay.
  • Salary Range:  $130K-$160K, determined by your experience, skills and internal equity.
  • Comprehensive benefits:  We offer an inclusive benefits package to support your overall well-being. Eligibility depends on your role and employment status.
