Director of Philanthropy

Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI) is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Philanthropy to lead all fundraising and development efforts in support of our mission.
Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to achieve fundraising goals through major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, grants, special events, capital campaigns, and other private funding opportunities. This position cultivates and maintains relationships with donors, identifies new funding sources, manages donor databases, writes and oversees grant proposals, and inspires supporters to invest in MRI's mission.
In addition to fundraising leadership, the Director of Philanthropy oversees public relations, marketing, community outreach, website content, customer service initiatives, and internal communications to strengthen MRI's visibility and community impact.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven professional with a passion for philanthropy, donor engagement, and advancing meaningful causes through strategic fundraising.
QualificationsJob Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, philanthropy, communications, public relations, business, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, public relations, or a related field.
- At least two years of nonprofit fundraising and resource development experience, including grant writing and donor cultivation.
- Strong verbal, written, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing fundraising campaigns, budgets, donor databases, and development initiatives.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor management software.
- Knowledge of services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid Illinois driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
- Must maintain personal automobile insurance meeting agency requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI) is a Decatur, Illinois nonprofit dedicated to promoting the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with developmental disabilities. MRI provides community day services, behavioral health support, employment and residential services, and operates manufacturing/contract programs — creating job opportunities and community integration while serving more than 800 individuals annually.
