Charter Steel is seeking a Director of Operations to lead manufacturing operations across multiple plants in two Ohio locations. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this leader will guide Plant Managers and manufacturing leadership teams to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operations while helping shape the future of the business.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced operations leader with proven multi-site manufacturing leadership experience to drive strategy, operational excellence, and culture across a broader manufacturing environment. In this role, you will influence strategy, strengthen operational excellence, and help build a highly engaged culture rooted in safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, trust, and accountability. You will also play a key role in driving customer satisfaction, employee engagement, leadership development, and sustainable growth across the organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide operational support and strategic direction to manufacturing leadership across multiple plants to ensure plant resources — including employees, inventories, expense budgets, and equipment — are effectively utilized to achieve Safety, Quality, and Productivity objectives through an organized and systematic approach.

  • Lead Plant Managers and other manufacturing leadership across multiple plants or locations to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operations.

  • Hold Plant Managers accountable for creating a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust.

  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and lead execution of prioritized initiatives as a member of the Division Operations Leadership Team.

  • Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, trust, teamwork, accountability, and high levels of employee engagement.

  • Drive accountability for producing quality products on time and within budget that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Ensure alignment of plant activities and KPIs to Divisional goals and objectives.

  • Develop and ensure execution of capital expenditure plans that support the Business and Strategic Plan.

  • Evolve organization structure to support business strategy while managing headcount and associated costs.

  • Develop a strong pipeline of operations leaders, invest in development of high-potential talent, and address key skill gaps. Implement actions as needed to address low performers.

  • Champion Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Energy Management System programs.

  • Collaborate with all Charter Steel business functions to ensure effective communication, execution, and alignment.

  • Ensure plants are aware of and utilizing all external resources, including CI, Engineering, Safety, HR, Environmental, and other support functions, to problem solve, continuously improve, and achieve objectives.

  • Follow Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.

  • Meet the essential job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description.

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience as a Plant Manager or above with 5+ years of progressive responsibility in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong track record of leading and developing managerial teams.

  • Demonstrated success in leveraging talent programs to develop operations talent pipeline and address critical skill gaps.

  • Experience in cost control and cost reduction methods through process improvements and project management.

  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to travel domestically at least 50% and/or as required with occasional international travel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Business, Engineering or a related field.

  • Multi-year experience in a metal casting, rolling, forming or processing industry.

  • Industry or other Professional certifications relevant to Charter Manufacturing.

  • Proven experience in the use of an advanced Manufacturing Information System.

  • Experience with ISO/Quality System Requirements.
