 The Role 

The Director of Cath Lab is responsible for planning, implementing and promoting the nursing standards and ensuring high quality, individualized patient care for the Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology, consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Health Center.  This position will have Clinical Nurse Supervisors and additional staff reporting to them.  They currently have four Cath Labs and perform on average 10 procedures each day.  The labs are Interventional and not diagnostic.  As part of the responsibilities of this role, you will oversee budget, capital requests and equipment management.  The department is fully staffed.  This person will also work closely with other departments.  Physician engagement will be a key part of success in this role.

 What You’ll Do

    • Promotes patient, physician and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect.
    • Supports and participates in activities that foster customer service.
    • Communicates and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.
  • People
    • Maintains required applicable licensure, certification and education.
    • Attends and successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements.
    • Participates actively in department staff meetings.
    • Demonstrates mastery of verbal and written communications.
  • Works with the department clinical supervisors to identify and establish department goals that are consistent with the Health Center's values and strategic plans; develops strategies for achieving goals; develops and implements unit policies and procedures to support the provision of high quality, individualized patient care; assures standards comply with accepted professional and regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately prepares and analyzes department capital, labor and operating budgets. Establishes both long- and short-term goals; remains within an acceptable variance of the department's budget; documents, justifies and corrects negative variances, as warranted; communicates budgetary information to the department supervisors; monitors FTE and operating budget variances on a daily/monthly basis to ensure optimum productivity and utilization of human and material resources; implements prudent measures to reduce operating costs while maintaining productivity and high quality of service.
  • Collaborates with the department clinical supervisors to establish and maintain high quality standards and performance expectations of all staff; demonstrates willingness to test new ideas; continuously assesses performance and identifies opportunities to improve upon the quality of care and service rendered by the departments; supports and empowers staff members to improve the quality of patient care; utilizes positive group organizational and group dynamics to facilitate the change process; demonstrates and promotes a collaborative approach with other departments to assure the smooth integration of services.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and clinical resource in the coordination and delivery of patient care; assures adherence to approved practices, procedures and standards of care; assures complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process for each patient; communicates, negotiates and resolves patient care issues appropriately and effectively with all members of the health care team.
  • Ensures the ethical management of all clinical and managerial situations, assures patient rights, confidentiality and privacy.
  • Assists the department clinical supervisors, when necessary, with effectively managing the human resources of the departments. Assures adequate staffing and skill mix for provision of services; appropriately interviews, hires, reviews, promotes, transfers and separates personnel; provides disciplinary action that is fair, objective, developmental and timely; monitors performance improvement plans for staff, as needed; delegates assignments appropriately based on individual levels of competence.
  • Assures ongoing competence of all staff by monitoring their clinical performance and provides opportunities for growth activities and opportunities through training and education of unit personnel. The Director develops, implements and evaluates job specific orientation and training programs; identifies educational needs of staff; provides educational opportunities based on identified need; promotes the personal and professional development of staff and colleagues; presents and discusses changes with the hospital, with all staff members as appropriate; stimulates teamwork and fosters commitment to clinical excellence.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates quality control and improvement measures which are fiscally responsible.
  • Keeps informed of current trends and updates in practice by actively participating in the provision of educational programs.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment, through reporting from the department supervisors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Meets monthly budget targets in wage and non-wage as well as productivity standards for respective departments on an ongoing basis.
  • Directs maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff.
  • Maintains required unit records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and budget preparations.
  • Reviews trends in acuity data regularly and ensures that acuity is used in staffing.

 

What You’ll Bring 

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, or related field (preferred).
  • Required upon hire: California Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed).
  • Required within 90 days of hire: National specialty certification.
  • Preferred upon hire: American Heart Association ACLS.
  • Preferred upon hire: American Heart Association PALS.

 

xperience & Expertise

  • 5 years of experience in an acute care setting.
  • 3 years of progressive management experience in the field of expertise.
  • Experience in a Magnet Designated organization in a leadership role (preferred).

Professional & Leadership Capabilities

  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities and short time frames.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position.  The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
