Director Marketing
Job Description
Purpose of Position:
The Marketing Director DACH is responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to drive brand growth, consumer engagement, and business performance. This position leads a team of marketing professionals to deliver best-in-class brand activations and ensures alignment with Mattel’s global strategy while addressing local market needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute the overarching marketing strategy for the DACH region, ensuring alignment with Mattel’s global vision and business objectives.

Identify market opportunities and risks through deep understanding of the local competitive landscape, retail dynamics, and consumer behavior.

Drive innovative approaches to engage consumers and maintain Mattel’s leadership in the toy and entertainment industry.
Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse marketing team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and performance excellence.

Set clear goals and provide guidance to ensure team members achieve their full potential.
Brand Activation
-
Oversee the planning and execution of all consumer-facing brand activation initiatives, including product launches, retail campaigns, and event marketing.

Ensure high-quality execution of marketing activities across all channels, including digital, social media, and traditional platforms.

Partner with the Consumer Products and Licensing teams to drive franchise growth through merchandising, promotions, and localized activations.
Media and Communications

Manage relationships with media agencies to deliver impactful campaigns, ensuring optimal allocation of budgets across traditional and digital channels.

Drive innovative content creation and placement strategies to maximize brand visibility and engagement.
Retail and Customer Engagement

Collaborate closely with the Sales team to develop tailored retail activation plans by channel and customer.

Lead the creation of compelling selling tools, showrooms, and ad-hoc customer presentations to support business objectives.
Performance Management

Monitor and analyze business results and marketing effectiveness, leveraging data to inform decision-making and optimize strategies.

Ensure efficient management of Advertising & Promotion (A&P) budgets to maximize ROI.
Qualifications
Skills and Competencies

Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate global objectives into effective local strategies.

Deep understanding of the DACH market, including consumer preferences, retail environments, and cultural nuances.

Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a matrixed, international organization.

Expertise in digital marketing, including current trends and innovative tools.

Results-oriented mindset with a competitive spirit and a passion for driving business growth.

Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.

Fluency in English and German is required.
Education and Experience
-
University degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s).

Minimum of 8 years of marketing experience in consumer goods, preferably in the toy, FMCG, or entertainment industries.

At least 4 years of management experience with a proven track record in coaching and team development.
