Description

The Director of Marketing provides senior-level strategic leadership for all marketing, communications, brand, and customer experience functions at Lifeworks. This role holds enterprise-wide strategic decision-making authority for marketing strategy, brand governance, market positioning, public relations, advertising, customer lead generation, referrals, and integrated communications.

The Director advances organizational visibility and engagement through a unified brand strategy, oversees organization-wide marketing and customer experience frameworks, and establishes robust systems for performance measurement—including KPIs, dashboards, and reporting models that inform executive decision-making.

This role leads the Marketing team and manages external partners to ensure cohesive execution across all channels, strengthening the Lifeworks mission and driving sustainable, long-term growth.

Position Title: Director of Marketing

Department: Advancement - Marketing & Communications

Hours: Full-time 40+ hours/week, Monday – Friday (Exempt)

Location: Lifeworks Services – Richfield/Hybrid

Compensation: $109,500-$120,000

Bonus Eligible: Yearly

  • Bring expertise across marketing, customer experience, brand strategy, positioning, communications, public relations, digital strategy, and advertising.
  • Have experience developing and implementing KPIs, dashboards, and measurement frameworks, and leveraging data for decision-making.
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership, influence, and collaboration with senior executives.
  • Deliver outstanding writing, editing, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Manage budgets, vendors, and operational leadership responsibilities.
  • Offer experience working with underserved or underrepresented communities (preferred).

Pre-employment requirements: Must pass a DHS background study and drug test, and maintain reliable transportation for work-related travel if required.

How you’ll be spending your time:

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Direction

  • Providing enterprise-level strategic direction and decision-making authority for all marketing, communications, brand, and customer experience initiatives.
  • Developing and implementing multi-year marketing and customer experience strategies aligned with the Lifeworks Strategic Plan, mission, and service outcomes.
  • Defining organizational positioning, value proposition, and competitive strategy; recommending market opportunities and growth paths.
  • Serving as a key leader, contributing to system-wide planning, strategic decisions, and cross-functional initiatives.

Brand Governance, Communications & Reputation Management

  • Leading organization-wide brand governance, ensuring a cohesive identity, messaging, tone, creative expression, and storytelling across all departments.
  • Overseeing strategic communications, public relations, crisis communications, executive messaging, and thought leadership.
  • Maintaining consistent, high-quality communications across digital channels, advertising, print, content programs, and media engagement.
  • Providing strategic directions on advertising, campaigns, and paid media to increase awareness and drive engagement.

Digital Strategy, Customer Experience, Measurement & Market Insights

  • Directing the digital ecosystem, including website strategy, SEO, analytics, user experience, conversion pathways, and accessibility.
  • Leading the development of measurement frameworks, including KPIs, dashboards, and performance indicators that track customer experience, lead generation, referrals, and marketing ROI.
  • Overseeing customer journey mapping, experience design, and referral pipeline strategy across all audiences and services.
  • Analyzing market dynamics, audience insights, competitive positioning, and emerging trends; delivering strategic recommendations to executive leadership.

Team Leadership, Resource Allocation & Vendor Oversight

  • Leading and developing the Marketing team through coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Managing contractors, agencies, and vendors to ensure strategic alignment and high-quality execution.
  • Leading budgeting and resource allocation to maximize return on investment and support organizational priorities.

Cross-Functional Support & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Implementing internal communication tools, messaging frameworks, brand training, and resources.
  • Collaborating with cross-departmental teams to support marketing integration, customer touchpoints, and organizational messaging.
  • Strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders, funders, community partners, and media outlets.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, customer experience, or business development, including leadership roles.

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in Marketing, Communications, or MBA.
  • Nonprofit or human services sector experience.
