POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Sr. Director, the Director, Major Gifts is responsible for securing and growing major gifts in support of the ALS Association’s strategic priorities and mission. The Director will build philanthropic partnerships with individuals and foundations to secure gifts at the $75,000 - $100,000 level and above and will carry an active portfolio of 75-100 supporters and prospects. Utilizing relationship management strategies this position will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters to grow revenue and build a pipeline of major donors for sustainable revenue.

The Director works as a partner to field-based Development staff and is assigned to two geographic territories. This role serves as the Account Manager for major donors, responsible for managing these relationships, including regularly involving other staff and volunteer partners in donor engagement strategies. This includes assisting these partners with strategy development, cultivation, and stewardship planning and execution, and providing support in all aspects of the execution of those strategies to solicit and secure support.
This position also works in concert with one or more Associate Director, Development roles, who are assigned to mid-level ($5,000-$50,000) within the assigned geography. Together, these teams of one Director, one Associate Director, and field staff in each Territory are responsible for each Territory’s Major Gift revenue goal (ranging from $1.5M-$3M).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Donor Development:
    • Identify and engage donors and foundation partners
    • Utilize moves management to build intentional relationships and thoughtful strategic plans for each supporter
    • Partner with Associate Director and Field Development partners in their assigned Territories
    • Provide engagement and funding opportunities that align with donors’ values and interests
    • Secure gifts through active solicitation
    • Provide prompt, personal, and ongoing stewardship
    • Maintain contact records in Salesforce and update benchmarking reports
    • Collaborate with Sr. Director on fundraising strategies and goals

 

  • Revenue Goals: Meet and exceed assigned portion of Territory Major Gift revenue goals (approximately $2.5-$3 million annually, with slight variations depending on portfolio) by closing strategic gifts from supporters, both directly and through field Development partners.

 

  • Culture of Philanthropy: Work both independently and collaboratively to cultivate relationships with field Development partners, donors, volunteers, and the ALS community. Demonstrate a proactive and resilient approach to cultivating donor relationships. Actively contribute to a culture of philanthropy.

 

  • Mission: We are committed to making ALS a livable disease and finding a cure. Demonstrate a commitment to the ALS Association's mission by staying informed about advancements in ALS research, advocacy, and care services.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university is required.
  • Five (5) or more years of major gift experience or related field.
  • A self-starter with strong communication skills
  • Ability to successfully engage with a diverse staff and range of donors, volunteers, and community members
  • Collaboration skills are required to partner with field Development colleagues involved in the achievement of Territory revenue goals.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion with an inherent drive to work and collaborate with diverse populations
  • Ability to work with flexibility in a dynamic team environment and embrace organizational change
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms is preferred.
  • Commitment to learn and utilize new technologies to improve efficiency and implement strategy
  • Proven track record of closing gifts and meeting fundraising goals
  • Possess integrity, maturity and ethical awareness; ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality. 


PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association’s pay range for this position is $115,000 to $123,498 annually.
