Purpose:
The External Relations function is charged with crafting and executing a proactive communications, media and stakeholder engagement campaign to drive broader awareness of Athene’s retirement services business. The Director is a key member of the team and will play a critical role in positioning Athene as the leader in retirement services. The ideal candidate will be nimble, proactive and demonstrate excellent judgement and keen attention to detail.
Accountabilities:
- Support Athene’s external engagement strategy by developing and implementing fresh, comprehensive media strategies to position Athene as the leader in retirement services
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, trade, and national media outlets. Pitch / secure high-quality media coverage of the company and its track record of innovation
- Manage inbound media inquiries and interview/speaker requests; support response strategy by assisting in coordinating spokesperson and messaging
- Organize and facilitate media interviews and events
- Draft talking points, PowerPoint presentations, briefing documents, pitch emails, press releases, social posts and Q&A documents
- Collaborate with government affairs and regulatory colleagues on communications materials and outreach opportunities
- Manage communication efforts during special situations, ensuring transparency and accuracy
- Partner with business units to create content that positions Athene as the leader in retirement services; optimize content for use in other channels
- Participate on cross-functional teams within Athene to create communication plans for campaigns. Execute and deliver communications campaigns with clear goals and measurable results
- Conduct quality control on all communications to ensure consistency in messaging across all channels
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of 7-years in communications, public affairs, media relations, or related fields
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a relevant discipline
- Retirement services / insurance industry experience, including familiarity with regulatory requirements and market dynamics
- Existing reporter relationships
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Superior PowerPoint and data visualization skills
- Must be able to thrive in a dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and priorities with a positive attitude
- Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail as well as the ability to work independently on projects.
$167,360.00 - $251,040.00 USD Annual
Annual Salary for this role is market competitive. Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
