ABOUT THE ROLE:
As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for a domain consisting of ~10 cross-functional squads with dozens of engineers and several Engineering Managers. You will be required to oversee and mature the general operations of this domain, drive engineering innovation, jump into firefighting when necessary, set year-long goals in collaboration with Product Leadership, and make success measurable across all levels of your domain. You will be the final point of responsibility for anything new that arises in your domain, ensuring that opportunities are seized and threats handled, before delegating or setting up processes for the future.
ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL:
- Manage, coach, and grow up to 10 Engineering Managers, enabling them to expertly lead their squads
- Manage, coach, and utilize senior engineering talent as needed by company requirements
- Oversee the productivity of all squads in your domain, debugging people and processes while de-siloing successes and knowledge
- Stay on top of industry trends and look years into the future, setting up plans for growth and adaptation of the RnD Department
- Jump into exceptions and emergencies, while setting up processes to make such cases routine
- Make measurable both the developer experience and general output of the squads
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE:
- Strong experience managing managers, and coordinating numerous different squads as they achieve business goals
- Several years of hands-on work as an engineer
- Several years of hands-on work in the SaaS industry
- A history of re-working and iterating on organizational setups with a mind successful change management
- A passion for translating the big picture into achievable engineering goal

- Kubernetes running on Google Cloud
- PostgreSQL
- We use Go for our API, core logic, and internal tooling
- TypeScript, React, Redux, and CSS modules for our web application
- Cypress for automated end-to-end testing
- Other odds & ends in JavaScript and shell script
- A Research and Development Department of 90+ of engineers, product managers and product designers in Berlin
- Leaders with 8+ years of experience building our promotions engine
