The Director of engineering, Foundational Services, is responsible for the delivery of centralized services essential to multiple Emburse products. The scope includes multiple teams and services responsible for our ERP Integrations/Connectors, our Financial Systems Integrations (banking and card partners), Login and authentication services and services shared by our SaaS applications. The role is responsible for managing managers, accountable for delivery of engineering objectives across multiple engineering teams, the delivery of cross-team initiatives, and building large scale multi-region services.
What You'll do:
- Technical
- 8+ years software & architecture development.
- 5+ years of related industry experience and software development / human leadership.
- Knowledge of relevant industry trends and best practices.
- Mastery level knowledge of applications and data processing.
- Hands-on experience working with large teams to achieve leadership directives.
- Develop, lead, coach, and assess the engineering team.
- Adept at delivering on multiple priorities in a geographically dispersed environment.
- Has direct reports, remote or local, and may have direct reports across multiple products.
- Process
- Familiar with all the policies, procedures and technical concepts related to software programming, including but not limited to security, deployments, build and UAT processes, SDLC, SSDLC, PCI/DSS, GDPR, and CCPA.
- Drives execution of technical roadmap(s) across one or more projects within the organization.
- Collaborates with the Product Owner(s) to establish roadmap direction, use cases, and analysis of scope, cost, and reach.
- Participates in design level activities.
- Participates in establishing high level technical / business requirements.
- Impact
- Lead technical teams in delivering highly scalable and reliable applications that meet business budgets/timelines while ensuring alignment to strategic technology vision.
- Establishes the quality, availability, resilience, and scalability of product solutions.
- Provides guidance to team members to encourage work productivity.
- Hire qualified candidates that also benefit the culture.
- Identify risks early and coordinate a mitigation plan.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide direct-reports career growth within Emburse.
- Create positive team culture that is curious and collaborative.
- Communication
- Skilled at influencing and negotiation with stakeholders to manage expectations.
- Strong coaching experience to build and sustain the teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional peers and leaders to deliver projects.
- Ultimately responsible for the teams, including work plan development, performance management, and human development.
- Communicate status up to senior management for both technical and business initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders establish goal priorities and ensure project delivery.
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent years’ experience.
- Required: Experience leading multiple software development teams and services using modern Java, Python, NodeJS and/or .NET.
- Experience delivering services and infrastructure on AWS and related IAC, Security, or a similar IAAC.
- Experience working in a scrum and DevOps environment, setting objectives and engineering metrics (e.g. DORA)., developing engineering strategy and setting software delivery performance.
- Experience designing and building API services, experience working with 3rd party APIs, large-scale or distributed web applications.
- Preferred: Experience with Banking or Financial APIs or services, other B2B Partner APIs in a B2B SaaS environment.
What we are looking for:
- Familiarity with the full stack of web development and proven history of web application development.
- Understanding of secure application programming practices or vulnerabilities.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with common design patterns.
- Ability to solve business problems through creative and forward-looking solutions.
- Ability to write clear, concise documentation.
