The Team & Role

We are looking for driven leaders to join us at SevenRooms. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to play a key role in helping a rapidly growing company transition from start-up to scale-up. Successful candidates will have a proven record for shipping products customers love, driving engineering excellence, and leading teams. They have excellent communication skills and the ability to identify problems and implement simple solutions that scale. They have a growth mindset and get excited about multi-year opportunities. This role is essential in creating a strong engineering culture that insists on high standards and shipping products. You will be joining a team of 70+ engineering professionals and will report directly to our team’s VP of Engineering.

SevenRooms is the preferred platform for restaurants who want to automate revenue growth while providing world-class hospitality. This platform is built by a team of ~70 engineers who are passionate about solving problems for our customers by shipping often. Our engineers are guided by the following core values that help us stay connected: Ownership, Customer Obsession, Collaborate & Be Transparent, Measure & Monitor, Be Creative, and finally Be Yourself.

What You’ll Do

  • Build Product: We believe the best product is built by engineers who own their product. This means understanding the customer needs and advocating for solutions to those needs. To do this they must actively engage with their counterparts in Product (and other orgs) and play an active role in developing the product roadmap.
  • Drive Technical Decisions: Engineering leaders own the technologies and stack used by their team. They have a broad understanding of our technical strategy and drive innovation on their teams as well as share learnings with the rest of the organization. Engineering leaders will be hands-on in designing systems, reviewing code, and when appropriate building solutions.
  • Embrace Software Best Practices: We are building software that powers thousands of businesses, as such we need our software to be reliable, performant, and easily built upon as we continue to grow our business. Leaders ensure that their teams build software that meets these goals.
  • Lead Teams: Engineering leaders engage with their teams to ensure they have a mission and vision for the future. This means understanding business strategy, customer needs, and risks. Leaders excite their teams about the opportunities ahead and provide clarity when navigating complex situations.
  • Manage and Grow Engineers: Leaders must be able to develop the engineers working with them. This means accelerating the growth of successful engineers while also identifying individuals who are struggling and taking action to support them. They understand the importance of radical candor when delivering performance feedback.
  • Collaborate With Your Peers: The best leaders build relationships and influence the individuals around them. They are able to discern when it's appropriate to offer help vs let someone else figure it out on their own. They are viewed by people across the org as a go-to person when in need.

Who You Are

  • You have a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals
  • You’ve built product and understand services oriented architecture
  • You’ve led larger (8-20 engineers) engineering teams with other leaders reporting to you
