We are seeking a Director of Software Product Engineering to lead engineering strategy and execution across our Healthcare Payer product portfolio. You will manage multiple product engineering groups, own end-to-end delivery of highly scalable SaaS platforms, and build a high-performance engineering culture. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical depth, a track record of using AI to accelerate engineering productivity, and the executive presence to operate seamlessly across strategy and day-to-day delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Organizational Leadership: Lead and grow a 50-100 engineer organization across multiple payer product groups, including direct management of Engineering Managers and senior technical leads and architects.
- Technical Strategy: Own the multi-year engineering roadmap — cloud cost optimization, platform consolidation, and AI-assisted engineering adoption.
- Engineering Excellence: Raise the bar on quality through CI/CD standards, robust release gates, and measurable improvements in DORA metrics and defect escape rates.
- Delivery Ownership: Oversee end-to-end delivery across multiple products — feature releases, NFR validation, load testing, and production readiness.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent engineering in executive forums, customer briefings, and technical leadership sessions; translate technical risk and trade-offs into clear business narrative.
- People & Culture: Build talent pipelines, drive succession planning, and foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.
- Domain Knowledge (preferred): Hands-on familiarity with healthcare payer workflows — claims, EDI, eligibility, enrolment, and benefits — is a strong plus.
- Experience: 15+ years in software engineering with 7+ years in engineering leadership; proven track record managing 50+ engineer organizations across multiple product groups in a software product company.
- Technical Depth: Strong architectural grounding in cloud-native development (AWS or Azure); hands-on background in Java, Python, or .NET; microservices, API design, and event-driven architectures.
- Engineering Practices: Solid command of CI/CD, DevSecOps, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and modern Agile or SAFe delivery methodologies.
- AI Tooling: Hands-on adoption of GenAI tooling to improve engineering productivity or quality in a product engineering context.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills; demonstrated ability to lead in matrixed, distributed, or offshore-heavy engineering organizations.
- Experience in healthcare payer products: claims, EDI, eligibility, enrolment, or benefits — in a health plan, TPA, or payer software company.
- Background in multi-tenant SaaS product development serving health plans or TPAs.
