Director of Engineering, Cloud

We are looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking Director of Engineering to lead our Cloud Engineering team. As Director of Cloud Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing the technical vision of our company, by closely partnering across Engineering and with Product, Marketing, Field Sales as well as other key cross functional teams. You will be responsible for leading and growing our cloud engineering team, and driving development efforts towards building a reliable, scalable, and operationally-efficient portfolio of Cloud offerings. Your portfolio encompasses Redpanda’s BYOC and Serverless products, including the Agentic Data Plane, the control and execution layer that powers how AI agents safely interact with real-world data across the technological sprawl of the modern enterprise.

You will:

• Lead and manage a team of engineers working on Redpanda Cloud, including Agentic Data Plane efforts
• Attract and hire top-tier engineers and first-line managers, equip and empower them to meet/exceed expectations and deliverables, and delight our customers
• Partner with Product Management and Engineering leadership to define the technical direction and long-term vision for Redpanda Cloud products.
• Lead execution across teams by setting priorities, allocating resources, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks to ensure predictable, end-to-end delivery.
• Drive operational excellence across Redpanda Cloud, ensuring a reliable, predictable, and scalable enterprise-grade service for our customers 
• Define and use meaningful metrics to measure and improve engineering productivity, delivery effectiveness, and team health.
• Provide career development guidance, structure, and feedback to team members to nurture, grow and develop highly effective leaders and team members
• Collaborate with our technical field to deliver robust solutions to customer challenges
• Lead by example, reinforcing Redpanda’s culture of customer obsession, empathy, ownership, and winning together as a team.

You have:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, building and operating enterprise-grade SaaS platforms.
• 5+ years of experience managing highly technical engineering teams, including leading organizations of 20+ engineers and managers.
• Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure and operations, with hands-on experience in public cloud platforms, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience defining strategy and roadmaps that align engineering execution with business and product priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results on complex initiatives through cross-team collaboration
• Eagerness to thrive in a fast growing, dynamic environment and comfortable working remotely with a 100% distributed team.
• Golang proficiency preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
• A strong sense of empathy for both customers and teammates, and a commitment to building high-trust teams.

Nice to have:

• Expertise in Linux systems used to run and operate production-grade services.
• Hands-on experience with data streaming platforms, AI/ML infrastructure, databases, or distributed storage systems at scale.
• Experience enabling teams to adopt AI code generation tools in ways that measurably improve velocity while maintaining quality

U.S. base salary range for this role is $260,000 - $300,000 (CA, NY, WA) and  $245,000 - $287,000 (other US locations). Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. As a remote-first company, we strive to consider each candidate's job-related skills, location, experience, relevant education or training to determine individual base salary.
