As we expand our presence across India to support growing demand in critical minerals, minerals processing and project development, we are seeking a Director of Development – India to shape our market growth, deepen client relationships and strengthen business capability across one of the world’s most important mining and industrial markets. Based in Navi Mumbai, this senior leadership role reports to the Vice President – Australia East and Asia and forms part of the regional leadership team.
In this newly created role, the successful candidate will provide strategic, commercial and operational leadership across business development, project development, client engagement and market expansion, while strengthening Sedgman’s position as a trusted partner in the minerals and resources sector.
With India identified as a key growth market, you will play a central role in building lasting client relationships, growing a sustainable opportunity pipeline and converting market opportunities into high-quality, commercially viable projects.
In this role, you will:- Lead Sedgman’s business strategy and market growth across India, providing leadership across development, client engagement, commercial performance and operational execution.
- Develop and convert a strong pipeline of opportunities, driving sustainable order book growth, commercial quality and disciplined risk management.
- Strengthen Sedgman’s market position across India within minerals processing, mining, critical minerals and industrial project development.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, partners, industry bodies, government stakeholders and strategic collaborators.
- Lead business development, pursuit management, tendering and submission governance activities in accordance with Sedgman and CIMIC frameworks.
- Support the growth and development of Sedgman’s high-value engineering capability in India and strengthen collaboration across global teams.
- Drive localisation strategies, including development of local partnerships, supply chains and workforce capability to support long-term growth.
- Provide leadership across studies, project development activities and pre-contract execution from concept through to execution readiness.
- Ensure delivery activities align with Sedgman and CIMIC governance, commercial, financial and HSE requirements.
- Champion collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement and a high-performance culture across the Indian business.
You’re a commercially minded leader with deep market knowledge, strong industry relationships and the ability to influence at senior levels while translating strategy into measurable business outcomes.
- Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Extensive experience within the mining, minerals processing, engineering, construction or EPCM sectors.
- Strong understanding of the Indian mining, construction and engineering market, with experience working for or alongside recognised industry organisations.
- Proven success in developing client relationships, identifying opportunities and converting business development pursuits into project awards.
- Significant experience in project development, studies, engineering services and mining project delivery environments.
- Demonstrated commercial leadership across contracts, proposals, negotiation, governance, forecasting and business planning.
- Strategic, commercially astute and confident operating across complex stakeholder environments.
- An influential leader capable of building high-performing teams and fostering strong partnerships across regions and cultures.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship management skills.
