Director, Compliance

The Director of Compliance serves as the leader of the Compliance and Ethics team and subject matter expert developing, overseeing, and monitoring the Company’s Compliance and Ethics program. Sitting within the Legal department and reporting to the General Counsel, the Director also provides strategic and operational support related to compliance and ethics matters across the Company to develop tools, best practices, and resources. The Director manages and develops other Compliance and Ethics team members while acting as a visible role model for company values, ethics, and an inclusive team culture.

The impact you'll have: 

  • Develop and lead the Company's Compliance and Ethics Program, including an annual compliance work plan, enterprise-wide compliance calendar, and Compliance and Ethics Committee, ensuring alignment with the Company's mission, values, and risk profile
  • Oversee compliance risk assessment and monitoring, implementing a comprehensive risk analysis process, coordinating monitoring programs with university partners, and conducting compliance reviews and cultural surveys across high-risk areas
  • Manage the Compliance Hotline end-to-end, including intake, triage, referrals, investigations, and resolution of reported concerns, while leveraging data analytics for root cause analysis and trend identification
  • Lead and oversee compliance investigations into alleged violations of laws, regulations, and Company policies, ensuring they are timely, objective, and well-documented, with consistent protocols and case management standards applied across the enterprise
  • Ensure corrective actions and remediation plans are developed, implemented, and tracked in response to investigation findings, identifying systemic issues and recommending control enhancements to prevent recurrence
  • Identify compliance gaps and report findings to the General Counsel and executive leadership, proposing corrective actions and providing strategic and operational compliance support across the Company
  • Build and maintain cross-functional relationships with leadership at all levels to coordinate risk, compliance, and ethics activities; develop tools, best practices, and streamlined procedures; and facilitate resolution of compliance-related issues
  • Develop and implement policies and reporting mechanisms that encourage employees to report suspected non-compliance, fostering a culture of transparency and ethical accountability
  • Develop and deliver compliance training, education, and awareness campaigns to strengthen employee understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and the Compliance and Ethics Program
  • Monitor the regulatory landscape in education technology and curriculum compliance, continuously building subject-matter expertise, and prepare compliance reports and presentations for leadership, Board members, and investors

What we're looking for:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of compliance and ethics frameworks, including regulatory requirements applicable to education technology, curriculum development, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and mature enterprise-wide compliance programs, including risk assessment methodologies, investigation protocols, monitoring systems, and corrective action tracking
  • Strong investigative skills, including experience conducting or overseeing complex compliance investigations with rigor, objectivity, consistency, and thorough documentation
  • Proven people leadership and team development capability, with experience building and managing a compliance function and supporting a compliance committee structure
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with legal, operational, and business leaders to develop practical compliance solutions, streamline processes, and foster a culture of ethics and accountability across the organization
  • Translates complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance and training for employees at all levels, adapting communication style to varied audiences, and drafts executive-level reports, board presentations, policies, and compliance communications with clarity and precision
  • Strong data analytics orientation, with the ability to leverage case management data, trend analysis, and root cause findings to drive systemic improvements and inform strategic compliance priorities
  • Builds trust and credibility at all levels of the organization, serving as a visible, accessible, and collaborative partner to leadership while maintaining independence and objectivity in compliance oversight
  • Maintains the utmost confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive investigations, personnel matters, and compliance findings, exercising sound judgment in navigating complex and sensitive situations
  • Applies risk-balanced, practical judgment to compliance questions, balancing organizational risk tolerance with operational realities, proactively monitoring the evolving regulatory landscape, and demonstrating agility and flexibility in a dynamic and growing environment

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred, such as Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school, Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), or Master’s in a related field such as public policy, organizational management, or other appropriate area
  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) required or expected to be obtained within 12 months of hire
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive compliance, ethics, legal, or regulatory experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or program management role overseeing a compliance function
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operationalizing enterprise-wide compliance programs, including risk assessment, investigations, monitoring, policy development, and training in a complex organization
  • Experience in education technology or a highly regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, financial services, government contracting) preferred, with the ability to quickly develop subject-matter expertise in applicable regulatory environments
  • Proven track record of managing compliance investigations end-to-end, including hotline oversight, case management, root cause analysis, and reporting findings to senior leadership and governing bodies
  • Experience presenting to and preparing materials for executive leadership, boards of directors, and/or investors on compliance program performance, risk findings, and remediation strategies

Travel: Less than twice per month to Company offices and conferences.

Benefits and Pay Range:

Pay Range – This role’s range is $110,500 - $196,500. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. This role is also eligible to participate in the company bonus plan. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.

Employees have access to a flexible vacation and sick policy in addition to twelve paid holidays and a winter office closure between Christmas and New Year's, as well as a number of additional perks and benefits.
