On the Microsoft Communications team, you’ll join a group of professionals focused on telling the stories that help people fall in love with Microsoft, the things we make, and the impact we have in the world.
The Microsoft AI (MAI) Communications team is looking for a Director of Communications to lead external communications for MAI models and research. This position will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies for Microsoft’s MAI team that the Humanist Superintelligence lab. The right person will be comfortable working directly with AI researchers, PMs and marketing teams in a fast-paced environment to create compelling plans that reach developer and research audiences. The successful candidate will bring strong technical writing and fluency with experience in launching new or emerging technologies. They will also have experience working directly with executives within a large, global organization often facing competing priorities to create the win-win for Microsoft.
Beyond day-to-day launch work, this candidate will also help develop engagement strategies that reach beyond traditional media targets. Experience working with non-traditional social media influencers in the technology space is preferred.

Responsibilities
- Own proactive and reactive PR for Microsoft AI models and research.
- Develop comms strategies for new model releases that reach developer, research and enterprise audiences.
- Partner with Go-To-Market, marketing and social teams to create campaigns that showcase technical credibility of Humanist Superintelligence team.
- Build out spokesperson bench for storytelling efforts beyond model launches
- Support senior leaders with media prep, executive messaging, and high-profile speaking opportunities.
- Create social influencer engagement and early access plans.
- Create and maintain compelling content to support ongoing storytelling efforts.
- Collaborate with the broader communications team at Microsoft to support cross-company events and news beats.
- Help protect the Microsoft brand by identifying and mitigating reputation risk on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experience
- Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years specialized functional (e.g., retail, technology) experience.
- 6+ years experience supporting senior executives in an executive communications role.
- 3+ years experience working with social media platforms.
Communications IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
