JOB SUMMARY 

The Center Director of the Permian Basin Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating activities as directed by the AHEC Project Director of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), and the Dean of Health Sciences, Dual Credit and Continuing Education at Midland College. Emphasis is on the promotion and support of health careers in the 27-county service area, with special attention to the needs of rural communities. The mission is to address health workforce shortages and health disparities in the region through collaboration and education.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with hospitals, physicians, health practitioners, educators, civic leaders, co-workers, and community organizations.
  • Ensures compliance with grant regulations and reporting in accordance with state and federal contracting.
  • Develops, reviews, and approves budgets and major expenditures; and ensures that requirements of funding sources are met.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines; and implements and monitors compliance.
  • Plans, develops, and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; and directs evaluation activities.
  • Represents the AHEC program at business meetings, hearings, trials, legislative sessions, conferences, and seminars, or on boards, panels, and committees.
  • Develop and supervise support staff.
  • Coordinate the development of health career programs for students and independent school districts.
  • Conduct a health workforce needs assessment in the service delivery area.
  • Implement a marketing plan for Permian Basin AHEC projects.
  • Direct the daily activities of the Permian Basin AHEC staff.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely reporting to regional organizations, the Advisory Board, and to state and federal entities.
  • Maintain an active Advisory Board composed of a wide range of healthcare partners.
  • Coordinate stipends for students in select healthcare disciplines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
    • Three years of previous employment in a healthcare-related field, program administration, or community development
    • Ability to collaborate with professionals from various health care organizations
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals
    • Experience with planning and implementing budgets and grants
    • Ability to gather, collate, and analyze data
    • Possess a high degree of initiative and professionalism
    • Exhibit an attitude of teamwork and interpersonal skills
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Possess managerial and leadership skills
    • Proficiency in computer usage and electronic communications
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, a good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree from a regionally accredited university
    • Supervisory experience
    • Experience with developing presentations and public speaking
    • Teaching experience in formal or informal settings

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    • Typical office 
    • Business Hours 
    • M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 
      • summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm 
    • Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)  
    • Occasional travel (less than 10%) 

    Physical Demands:

    • Requires frequent travel within a 27-county area. Some overnight travel required
    • Use of manual dexterity
    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
    • Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds

    Salary Range: $71,513 - $95,363
